RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

It's not dead. And you have to admit the forums were in a very steep decline when she did this. Now at least, it's on flat ground.

It isn't dead. People still post here, even though it's f'd up right now. Declaring murder was the case before death even happens is a selfish waste of time.

Wow. I check back today to find this place still under this 'punishment'. I agree with whoever said she was being like a teacher. This place is officially shot to hell. Luckily enough, I've managed to find another forum with even better forums about anti-school, others may not be so fortunate. I can only hope that Soul realizes she's done far more damage then intended.

I agree. This place needs rules.

There is quite a difference between Free Speech and Spam. Free speech is that you get to voice your opinions, no matter how controversial they may be, as long as they are contructive. Otherwise, it's just noise (spam). Let me rephrase it differently.

There's a difference between standing in front of town hall chanting, "Fix our roads! You do a horrible job at fixing them! Look at these potholes!" and standing in front of town hall screaming, "FUCCCCCCKKKKK YOUUOUOUOUO!!!! AHAHAHAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! BLOOOP DE BLOOOP!"

Right, or wrong?

No censorship, please, but please, mods and admins, get rid of the spam. And again, there is a difference between a thread containing a sensible story about someones grandma coming to town and a thread saying, "WE ARE EVERYWHERE AND WE ARE EVERYONE" and that's all. One has a basis for discussion, even if it may not be school related, and the other one, is made for the complete purpose of being obnoxious.

It clogs up the forum, hides the important threads, and makes us look like complete losers.

Another thing, personal disputes should not take place when it comes to the moderation of the forums. A thread is either spam or it isn't, and the author's name shouldn't have anything to do with it. Anyone who can't handle that should not have power.

It is better to ask for forgiveness than for permission. - Neal Vitale
I'd rather laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints. The sinners are much more fun.
Everyone can back up their opinions. Some people just do it a whole lot better than others. - Rebelnerd
Here's to the men and women who did what was considered wrong, in order to do what they knew was right.
'Of course it is happening inside your head, but why on earth should that mean that it is not real?'" - JK Rowling

Right, or wrong?
Wrong.

And to all you ungrateful assholes who are accusing people of "kissing soul's ass," you should all just shut the fuck up instead of talking about things you don't understand. She created this site. She's run it and paid for it all this time. People have come here on the brink of suicide and gotten help. A lot of the people complaining weren't even here when some of that shit happened. We don't support her because she's a "boss" or anything like that; we support her because she's done more for the anti-school movement than you could begin to understand. And all you can do is complain?

For you, this site is like a game. You come here and chat and hang out and meet people, and that's fine. We don't discriminate based on how seriously people take it. But understand this: not everyone is like you. Some of us have actually suffered at school. Some of us have gone through hell there. Soul made a haven for those people to talk, and for some of them it was the greatest gift they could have been given. So you can complain about how the forums is run all you want, but don't you dare accuse people of "kissing ass" when they once needed help and you didn't.

God, sometimes I hate always being the stubborn admin who defends you whining pricks' free speech rights. I won't stop you because it's against what I believe in, but you sure as hell don't deserve it.

You talk about 'they' and 'us' as though we're different. But are we? Because you have the power to influence the site more than we do, does that make us different? There's meant to be no discrimination here. Maybe that's one of the catalysts for the shitwave. Too many people have been given admin/mod, and it's developing a hierarchy.
