RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Guantanamo Bay

Can someone help me clear up some things?

I know Guantanamo Bay is going to close within... 18 months I think, but I'm getting conflicting information due to people trying to push their opinions.

So these prisoners, will they get a proper trial individually? If they are found guilty for whatever crimes, we are just going to transfer them to different facilities right? If they are not found innocent, we'll just send them home?

What should Gaiyara do Onii-chan? ♡

Innocent => Home, guilty => other prison in the US or UK, or death.

Me niether. The people there are not completely innocent. I mean, to be sent there, you must have at least been pal-ing around with terrorists, right? They don't just pick you off the street and send you to Gitmo - they have some kind of suspection towards you. The people there are not exactly the best members of society.

I say keep 'em there. And give 'em death if they're guilty. They may be thinking of themselves as myrtars (butchered the spelling there), but in my opinion, only god can judge them, if there is a god. And if there isn't, well, we don't need to be paying for the scumbags to eat and live in our prisons.

And what about those who really are innocent? That's what I don't like about just detaining people and not giving them right to a fair and speedy trial. Let's just lock up everyone so that crimes will never be committed again.

Like I said, you've got to be doing SOMETHING in order to get yourself tossed in there. Even if you havn't done anything big yet, there is a reason that people are in there. I don't have any sympathy for any of them, really. But, I'm not opposed to giving them a trail, and I do wish that it would be fast, so that it costs less. And I do hope that no one who isn't innocent gets away.

Actually, a lot of them were picked right up off the street exactly as you described. That's not propaganda, its an established fact. A bomb would go off and they'd grab "suspicious looking" people in the vicinity, and some of them might have been walking to work.

In fact, in Afghanistan, we were using bounty hunters that had no connection the US military at all. So Mr. Bounty Hunter's wife starts fucking the next-door neighbor behind his back. He finds out, wants revenge, and drags the neighbor's ass to the local US outpost and says he's a terrorist. The Army pays and thanks him, takes neighbot to Gitmo, and holds him there indefinitely.

Literally. That shit happens all the time. Guantanamo was an abomination that has no place in a democratic, rational justice system.

Re: Guantanamo Bay

Thanks Rebelnerd, that's what I wanted to know... was how we determined who would be detained here. A lot of what I've been hearing in the media was, "Oh no, we're releasing terrorists back into the wild. We're gonna have another 9/11."

But still, some people are going to say you're lying and we don't detain people like that.

Yeah, as rebelnerd said. BTW I've read in polish indymedia that Obama withdrawed from that idea saying he cannot let those "terrorists" go back to Osama, and that closing Guantanamo would resolve in higher risk for the USA.
He said that to NBC, anyone knows something about it?

All I know is they're keeping rendition. But he is closing Guantanamo, that much is pretty much certain. The question is what to do with the detainees once its closed.

Thunderstruck, Aviator has just as much right to say something stupid as you or I do. Perhaps her life has caused her to lean in a direction where the death penalty becomes less taboo then yours. Clearly its nothing against her knowledge on the subject.

Though thinking on a situation such as Guantanamo Bay, I must say that if it was necessary to find critical information...I could not remove it from my possibilities. Perhaps its not my place as a human being to be able to judge if a person is justified in torture. Yet, I believe violence can be used for good. Monsters breed Monsters after all. Its a deadly cycle.

Seriously though, what is going to happen? Some of these guys are hardened terrorists but they're still just people. These politicians are acting like they're superhuman monsters who will break down the prison walls with their laser eyes and hide out in suburban neighborhoods to rape little puppies. They're just humans, why should a brick wall in America do a worse job of holding them than one in Cuba? It's not like we're going to just stick them randomb people's houses. We just need to have trials so we can weed out the guilty.
