RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

L's Handy Dandy Termonology Guide

Hello. Some terminology that is used here can be overwhelming for newcomers, so I decided to create a guide to all the words and internet terms we here at SS use. So, here are some of the things I never knew before I came here:

Troll: A troll is a consistent spammer. Somebody could troll an entire forum by spamming it and trying to lead topics off track. A section of a forum by just spamming threads in that section. Or, spamming a person or group of people by spamming and trying to lead topics off course when they make a thread.

Lulz:
Fire Elf Wrote:It is basically a corruption of LOL, which stands for laugh out loud.

4chan/Anonymous: Anonymous is a hacking group that is full of lulz. They just do things for fun. 4chan is there website. They can be found at: http://www.4chan.org

/b/: 4chan's random section. The most lulzy part of their site.

/b/tard: someone who hangs out a 4chan.

Rules 1 & 2: basically states nobody talks about /b/ outside of the site. ex.

I'll think of some more later. Hope I helped Biggrin .

The only good signature is a dead signature.

I've heard that bullshit rules 1 and 2 applied in various contexts... the fact is, 4chan got popular, and a bunch of people made it suck. It is now 4ailchan because people started talking about it which inevitably caused them to discover /b/.

WUT IS THIS 4CHAN YOU SPEAK OF. I'M GOING TO GO THERE RIGHT NOW AND SHIT ALL OVER THE WEBSITE. WUT LOLCAT? SHIT IS FUNNY, LET ME START A THREAD ON THIS FUNNY RANDOM FORUM I FOUND. LOLOLOLOLOLOOOO SO GLAD MY FRIEND TOLD ME ABOUT THIS 4CHAN.ORG.

True story:

I was sitting in the TAMS computer lab (fag school made for fags/geeks/newfags/people who think the internet is the cool kids club) and some ass blurted out, "Hey any of you guys ever go on 4chan.org?"

That's when I stopped caring about rules 1 and 2.

People who say "rules 1 and 2" only applies to raids are just newfags trying to be oldfags. There is of course, more emphasis placed on those rules during raids, because the purpose is to preserve anonymity.

Hey, guess what, newfag here, but I have enough brain cells rubbing together to stay the fuck away from 4ch.

What should Gaiyara do Onii-chan? ♡

Re: L's Handy Dandy Termonology Guide

Rules 1 and 2 really only apply to raids. Seriously. People will still discover it, and honestly, idiots aren't going to follow 1 & 2 anyways, so you may as well balance it out with some new intelligent people. Be selective in who you tell.
