Arizona did the same thing back in 2000, but with a disclaimer that we don't need to leave until 34 other states join us.

Nevermind, I'm too white and smart to be a redneck nevermind. Also, you should do some research. The states that suceded from the Union did so, incidentally for the same reason we're getting there now: the government was really shitty and tipped against them.

Actually, it wouldn't have mattered. Slavery would have died out on its own simply because it wouldn't have been cost effective to crops. It was actually illegal to ship in new slaves, so they were limited to what they had and their offspring. Furthermore, inventions like the cotton would've made it even more pointless. Why crack a whip at a slave to pick shit up with his/her hands for hours on end when you can just use a plow to do it faster?

That's actually debatable I think. We have no personal logs of actual plantation owners as far as I know. Most of the slave owners actually freed their slaves in their wills, but I learned that in history class. So I have no idea if that information is reliable or not.

Actually, I do. It was illegal to import new slaves, as mentioned in the Confederate States' constitution. So due to the cruel treatment, slaves would've died out eventually. New inventions would have rendered slave ineffective. Plantations were a form of income- maintaining slaves costs money. They would've become less cost effective, so slave owners would've started doing shit themselves. They were getting with the times, so to speak.

But if you don't accept that, that's fine.

Besides, look at the violence that erupted in Kansas just before the war, all over the issue of whether to make it a free or slave state. Slave owners were willing to fight and die for that "right." Do you really think it would have died out so easily? There still would have been plantations that existed as little pockets of slavery even if the larger ones stopped using it. Or they would have used them as house servants instead of fieldhands.
