RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

Re: Where and how do you get your money?

I receive $20 every other week from my mum for doing odd-job chores here and there & by helping her out when she needs it. With the economy nowadays it isn't like many people are willing to hire teens not even out of high school yet, and if they would the majority are not worth the low pay. Anyway, some of my relatives are "loaded" (for lack of a better-yet-blunt word) and I have stores from past birthday & x-mas presents....most of my stuff is from being saved-up for a long while. Re: Where and how do you get your money?

I have a job online, can turn over £200 per week profit free lance work. And have a weekend job sometimes in real life.

I could get money from parents + grandparents but I hate accepting money unless I really need it.

I used to be "The circus" as I forgot my login, but then hey-ho I remembered it.

I'm a online salesman, I sell random shit. I also do chores and work around the house, and get many every few weeks or so.

"I heard a joke once. Man goes to doctor says "I'm terribly depressed". Doctor says "I know just what you should do. Poliacci the clown is in town, go see him, you'll be cheered right up." The man bursts into tears. "But Doctor, I am Poliacci." Funny joke. Roll on snare drum. Everyone laugh."

Re: Where and how do you get your money?

I worked at my dad's company last year, coding websites for $7.25 an hour. I'd do it this year, but I'd work at the shipping department with several dozen women more than twice my age (it'd be really awkward, being the only guy there), I'd only be paid $7 instead of $7.25, I'd only be able to work for a few weeks there, and the job was never available for me in the first place.

Re: Where and how do you get your money?

I dont hardly get money. No allowance. No job.

Last couple of report cards werent so good so no money.
My birthday was a while back so all that money's long gone.
My mom owes me $150 from my stash. My stash isnt much any more.

When I do rarely get money its $5-10 only.

Poor me. ):

I get about 200€ from my parents. I considered working somewhere for extra cash, but for now this is enough for me.

Re: Where and how do you get your money?

Im capable of making 50 bucks a week weed-wacking, But I only do it if my dad makes me usually. I get 6.50 an hour. weed-wacking is pretty much the worst job ever though. But I suppose its a viable income source.

Had to move on. Account is dead.

Re: Where and how do you get your money?

I can make up to $30 a week taking care of my neighbor's cat while she's away (like every other week), around 5$ a week from my dad for doing odd jobs (I only see him for 5 out of 14 days, so that's not bad) and about the same from my mom. I have also been asking for a part-time job at the local soccer supplies or airsoft store.

As of now, I make anywhere from $15 to $50 a week. Good enough for me. If I get a part-time job at the airsoft or soccer store, I'd prob'ly double, if not triple my maximum.

Re: Where and how do you get your money?

I don't get money. I could rpobably do like yardwork and babysitting, but i don't have the time :/ or even anything to check people who are looking for people to do that. And i can get a job until i'm 14, and those jobs aren't very good, though i wouldn't mind working at the nature center, i'd get to take the snake out!!!!! Biggrin
so yeah Smile

I'd sign up for one of those website that you like do surbeys or whatever (the 13+ ones considering i'm 13) BUT i'm not sure if my mom would approve... Actually she might even ask for part of my income :waah:
my family is poor (except for my aunt)

Re: Where and how do you get your money?

And my life savings are going to vanish thanks to a purchase I'm going to make that includes:

Echo 1 G-36c
2 100-rd midcap magazines
Smart Charger
2 3000 ct bags of high polish .25 gram ammunition.

But dammit, it's going to be worth it.

Re: Where and how do you get your money?

At the moment I make money watching my neighbors' homes while their away on trips, I usually rake in about $10-30 per week they are gone, not too much cash, but it's easy money. I also fix and build computers when I get the chance, I'm planning to build and sell them for a nice bit of profit if I can find enough people who want one. My parents usually give me $75 a month which is normally meant for lunch, but most of the time I just skip lunch and snack on my friends' lunches to save up. Along with doing odd chores every now and then, I can earn about $185 a month if things go well.
