RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

I need some advice

I've read over the internet a lot of times about the economic crisis, but I always regarded it as being some other fairy-tale economist concept, because I never cared for economy and other shit.

And so here I am today, living with a family who is about to get kicked out of the place we live in because of a bank debt, and I most probably will end up living with my dad. I wish I hadn't said this over the internet, but I need to get it off my chest.

I have no idea how economy works. I don't know what I'll do once I finish highschool, but I have a few general ideas.

The first, and most important idea, is to get out of this freaking redneck backwater country, and go to any other country where people know what logic and common sense are. People leave Romania by the day, and have done so even before this crisis.

But once I get where I want to go, what then? I don't even know what I have to do to move in another country, except leaving this one. I don't know what money I will need, or how I will get a job there, or anything that I can live off of. Once I have that cleared, I'll see what I'll do.

As I said, I have no idea how economy works. I want to make a couple of sites and put ads on them to get a small bit of money, but how will I know if adsense, or other such programs, will work? What if they shut down? I'm scared as hell.

I planned to work for a year or two, and then quit whatever job I'm doing and get self-employed. But I don't know what I have to do.

I'm very confused.

There's a place on earth where people like that are commonly found? I think they're rare no matter what country you're in. Razz

If Adsense dies, use Chitika. If Chitika dies, use ... I dunno, Adbrite. If that dies, use something else. There are tons of website advertising companies and new ones keep starting up all the time. In fact, it's smart to use more than one at a time as a "don't put all your eggs in one basket" thing, and also, some combinations make more money than using just one thing on its own anyways.

What's the dollar to Romanian money exchange rate like? In South Africa I can live comfortably on $200 a month... I've heard people can't do that in America and you sure as hell can't do it in the UK. Staying there might not even be that bad...

Lol @ $200 a month. That barely pays for food in a month here in America... Then you've got electric bills, water bills, taxes, various insurance (health care...if you even have it, car insurance etc.), a little extra money over for savings, car payments, rent/mortgage payments...

Noo

What should Gaiyara do Onii-chan? ♡

You can live with 200$ here as well (if you live by yourself, in a 1 room apartment), but things here are horribly overpriced (and the prices keep rising and rising), and the wages are shit, that's why people are moving all the time.

I can't think of any practical examples at the moment, but Romania sucks when it comes to its economy.

Hm, I don't know. I've thought of Sweden or Finland. But I don't know much about how much things cost there. (As I said, I'm shit when it comes to economy and money related things)

Hey, I don't think you need to worry about Adsense going away. I'm no economics expert and I don't know Google's financial status but Google basically rules the world. I'm sure they're making a pretty good profit from Adsense and they're not going to do away with it any time soon.

Re: I need some advice

Hmm OK, it sounds like Romania is a bit worse off than South Africa in the money department. Food is pretty cheap here. The internet is kinda shitty, but it's improving slowly. Computer parts are pretty ridiculously overpriced, due to the insane import taxes they slap on everything they possibly can... and I'm sure some fat cats are making some fat profits as well. I mean, it's almost cheaper to fly to the UK, buy a whole PC there and fly back...

Yeah, Adsense probably isn't gonna die anytime soon. But that doesn't mean they can't still ban you from the program, either due to you breaking their rules, or some random nut attacking your site and mass-clicking ads like a maniac. Always smart to play it safe, just in case. Smile
