100 hours to learn arithmetic, reading, and writing.

John Gatto often says this to point out the embarrassing inefficiency of school to deliver. Anyone know more statistics like this?

100 hours (which could potentially be done in a few weeks), to give a child the ability to do arithmetic, and reading and writing on their own so they can teach themselves anything.

I agree that we spend WAY too much time on a particular subject, rehashing it over and over again - but I think the "you can be proficient at something in 100 hours, an expert with 10,000 hours..." line of thinking is inane. It's not exactly something you can prove. We're not robots, we go at different paces.

But I agree with the sentiment of course. Seriously - 12 years? Maybe another 4 after that? Completely unnecessary.

yea if they stoped reviewing, exspeacaily in math. and kept building on it we'd get down in a few years not 12. not to mention i swear to god most of middle school is review. anyone else agree?

Also, in 100,000 hours you can devote your entire life to whatever the fuck you want to do, like coming up with "anecdotes" to slowly enslave and automate the human race!
