RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

English Research Paper...

Caution, random vent ahead

Well here's the case, our English teacher gave us an assignment, a research english paper.

But she has it differently, he have to write 6 paragraphs on something that interests us and give facts and show our opinions on something.

Well apparently there was a catch...

The ONLY thing I was interested as my topic was heavy metal (and anti-school things ;D ) but then she said flat out NO.

Look, her instructions even SAY we could do anything we wanted. But she said no and now i'm stuck with doing the myth of sewer gators OoOoOoOoO Noo

Its fucking bullshit, and get this, everyone else is doing EXACTLY what they want to. Rocket

Now I can't make this damn assignment worth my while

Any ideas that I can sneak into it? Evillaugh

Here is the research instructions btw

Quote:In this unit, you will have submitted by now your proposal for your research essay. You will research the topic of your choosing. Remember, you will have to tell me your thoughts on the information you find. You will include your opinions about your subject.

This is a research paper. You may use internet and library sources—public or school. Show at least 5 sources in your work, including at least two (2) printed sources. You will turn in bibliography cards, properly formatted, March.

You will use the MLA style of citation and formatting. (Refer to The Rookie’s Guide.)

Your paper will include:

a title page

a Works Cited page

Pagination will begin on page 2.

(Page 2 will have your last name followed by a space and the number 2 at the extreme right of the top of the page. Page 1 is NOT the title page.)

The title page will be centered and will have:

the title of your paper, properly capitalized, about one-third of the way down the page.

by

your name.

Laborville High

Mrs. Stuck-Up Bitch

the date.

The title will be centered at the top of the first page. The rest of the information will be left justified. On the Works Cited page, you will center the title Works Cited at the top of the page, on the line below your name and page number. The bibliographic information will be left justified with hanging indents. It’ll be great; you’ll love it. <-- ya BULLSHIT

You will use proper citation, proper punctuation, and good grammar. But most of all, you will have a great deal to say about your chosen poet.

Your essay will be a minimum of five paragraphs. You must never put extra line spaces between paragraphs (observe how this page is formatted—don’t do it this way. You will use an essay format with indented paragraphs.)

5-7 paragraph essay Font: Courier New, size 12 Double spaced

Also note that she doesn't let us personalize the essay AT ALL

This may be retarted but I wanted to get it out

Re: English Research Paper...

I'd do it on a topic you like anyway. Biggrin

I'd start it like this:

Although I'm supposed to be writing on the myth of the sewer gator, I decided to write about something that really interests me, and affects almost everyone in the United States; our broken school system.

Honestly, what's she gonna do? Fail you because you decided to apply what you've learned in school thus far to a topic that you find interesting? Seriously, good authors - the kind that get published in magazines and stuff - write about things that interest them, or that they have something to say about. That's where the best articles are made - in the heart, not the teachers brain.

I dont know Aviator, she is a pain in the ass and know all the logic in the world, and i'm bad at following up my points

Oh and for the anti-school quote

I'm almost done the rough draft, i'll stick it in a 20pt font at the end of the page for her to see

I already wrote about why school is wrong in one of my journals to turn into her, but she never responded

Same thing in world geography
The question was:
What is Polands chief export?
and I put "I don't know and I don't care"
still no response Bored

TY anyway Hug

My Reading teacher doesn't let us personalize our works at all either. And she's also a stuck-up bitch, only with a shrill voice and short temper.

Re: English Research Paper...

Just go on for 6 paragraphs about Dio music videos, and she'll be so confused she won't be able to do anything but give you an A.

Nah, seriously. Whatever you want to do, do it. Take one for the team if you need to. Just make sure you do a damn good job writing the paper.
