RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017
The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.
If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.
To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

I'm not sure how I should respond to this. In the past, I'd reply to stupidity with comments involving the encouragement of suicide as well as insults, but now, I just don't feel like posting that kind of stuff anymore. Now I just feel sorry for people like you. Stupid people like you, who aren't worth any of my time.

"A human being is a part of a whole, called by us _universe_, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest... a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty."

Go to work. Send your kids to school. Follow fashion. Act normal. Walk on the pavement. Watch TV. Save for your old age. Obey the law. Repeat after me: "I am free."
I hate group reading. I often end up drifting off at my own pace, feeling like I'm "inside the story"... trying to go at the same pace as everyone else is annoying and I just end up with a headache rather than "inside the story", if you know what I mean. Even if it's not a story, reading in groups at the same pace seems stupid to me, some people might be bored and others might struggle to keep up because of missing concepts, which is a problem that is, after all, present in many aspects of schooling.
Though still YOU ARE STUPID IF YOU CAN'T UNDERSTAND A LECTURE PROPERLY, I guess. But I hate group reading stories, I feel like I'm better off just reading them myself.

Especially when half your class sound like robots. And the other half stop to understand words every 3 seconds.

People say the problem with me is I have psychotic tendencies and care not about other human beings I don't like and or know. So?

Everytime I'm in a group reading I feel
Me=God Tier
Normal=Shit Tier
Retards= JUST FUCKING KILL THEM ALREADY MY GOD.
And then the teacher makes the ones who can't read a decent pace read, so they can learn.

Again, I agree with you. School does teach you things. And once again, you are missing the point entirely. It's not that I disagree with school's mission or the things it teaches. What I object to is that the students are deprived of any choice in the matter. As benign as the intentions may be, any system that forces people into an environment where they have no say in their lives is a situation ripe for abuse of power.

And where is this linear logic you speak of?
I generally read faster than everyone else but sometimes I do go slower. Most of the time I can read fluently, while a lot of people on my "honors" classes seemed to not be able to, and I'm not even a native English speaker :|
I remember being so mad in 5th grade when we read Johnny Tremain because my classmates didn't know how to pronounce the simplest words. I always had a pencil when we were reading and would promptly make a note of every mistake everyone made.

I usually just suppressed laughter when kids couldn't pronounce words.
I really don't know which of us is the bigger jerk.

Well I remember some people reading terribly since... 10th grade :|
Though it tends not to be so terrible anymore, and it's only about 5 in 30 people or something, and many of them seem to even be native speakers.
