RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017
The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.
If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.
To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.
-SoulRiser

Tell xcriteria about it.
No seriously, Patreon is pretty awesome. We should've been using this a while ago.

Today was the first time I saw this. I checked the link and saw that no one had pledged anything to SoulRiser. I felt so sad about this I actually started to cry a little. So I decided I would be the first one to pledge something. I pledged 5 dollars a month but she seems to only get 4 from that or four and some change.
Anyhow I want to ask people to at least pledge 1 dollar per month if they have a credit card. That seems to be the only way you can add money.
SoulRiser spends more on this site each month than I realized and she has put so much of her life into it. It really hurts me to see that this post is about 2 weeks old or so and no one else has pledged anything. I don't know how SR feels, but I would feel discouraged if no one had pledged anything with all the people who use the forum. I saw that Boyinaband is getting like 7 or 800 dollars per month. I think what SR has done for all these years is worth more to the world or has more value and has almost certainly helped more people. It pains me to see how much someone can make from signing a song - even a good one - compared to what others contribute to humanity. So anyhow, please, those of you who can, please let's show SR that we value her and what she does and has done.
I actually feel a little guilty that I am not pledging more, but I -- well I won't explain it or say more. I will just say that is what I feel comfortable with for now. Plus SR has been paying for my hosting service for a while now and I feel guilty about that so this will help me feel less guilty and will be something tangible I can do to support SR. I keep forgetting to talk to SR about that btw so SR if you read this please remind me. I think you have forgotten it too!
And thank you for all you have done with the site and the forum since you started it a lonnnnng time ago.
A big hug to you.

RE: Support School Survival on Patreon
Thank you. Every bit helps.
Actually, xcriteria also pledged the same amount. I thought it would show that publicly... but maybe it doesn't. Or maybe he didn't want people to know for some reason? If so, oops.

I get where you're coming from, but you have to realize a lot of users on SS come and go, and many of us are just teenagers or young adults with no jobs or make very little income.
I definitely would donate to Soul IF I COULD, but I have a lot of personal shit irl to deal with and I cannot afford to donate to anyone or anything. If I had money I'd definitely be setting a lot of it aside to try to abolish compulsory schooling and fund alternative methods for education and stuff like that.
It's a real big shame that Soul hasn't made more money than she should have, it really is, but I hope one day that people like Soul and I are able to crowdfund and/or make enough money ourselves to push School Survival's agenda into the spotlight.
I hope I didn't sound rude either! That wasn't my intention at all. Also, I don't really think I really needed to say this but I guess since you posted that I had to say it. Again, hopefully there is enough money that we can raise one day to launch SS into mainstream and perhaps one day be done with compulsory schooling.
Seven crappy hours of our lives.

Only creditcard and PayPal? Well damn.
Could you set up a Bitcoin wallet in addition to this Patreon thing? I'd gladly send €5 there once a month...
Just install this: https://multibit.org
And post the address it says when you press Request.

I installed Multibit... but it doesn't seem to like me. It has a red dot at the bottom and says "Connecting", but as far as I can tell in Resource Monitor, it's not connected to anywhere and doesn't seem to be doing anything at all.
So I installed Electrum, and I managed to set up a "receiving address", or actually a whole bunch since it seems to make them in batches.
Here's the first one (I set it to never expire):

My brain hurts from all the reading I did today... and I still have a lot to learn about how these things work.
Thanks for motivating me to actually set this up. I hope it works.

Nice! Make sure you've written the recovery words down or you might lose all the money when something happens.
I'll send some money in a few days!
