RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017
The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.
If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.
To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

The Thread For Pink Floyd Fans
Since I have seen quite a few Pink Floyd fans around the forums, I have created this forum specifically for Pink Floyd fans.
The first thing is, what is your favorite Pink Floyd album? Also, which Pink Floyd album is your least favorite? Which album do you think that The Floyd could've improved upon? Also, what is your favorite and least favorite Pink Floyd song? And, which member's era did you like the most?
But, if anybody here thinks that Pink Floyd only released a couple albums, you are sadly mistaken. They released a whole catalog with 13 albums, not including the multiple outtakes, demos, and bootlegs that exist. Also, for anybody who believes Pink Floyd is a 'he', you are also sadly mistaken, as Pink Floyd consisted of 5 official members (Syd Barrett, Nick Mason, David Gilmour, Richard Wright and Roger Waters), not including the members from their days as the Screaming Ad-dabs or The T Set.
Whew. That was definitely a hell of a lot of writing. Anyways, I'll be answering these questions below. If you want to talk otherwise about Pink Floyd, feel free to do so.

RE: The Thread For Pink Floyd Fans
The first thing is, what is your favorite Pink Floyd album? Personally, while I liked all of their earliest works, I would have to say it was Ummagumma. Not only did it show the experimental nature of the band, but what each member was capable of when given a solo assignment, as each song on the studio album was written by a different band member (1 by Rick, Nick, and David as well as 2 by Roger, which Syd was already ousted out at this point...). Others albums I loved were Piper At The Gates of Dawn, A Saucerful of Secrets (I spelled that correctly, too...) and Atom Heart Mother. Also, some trivia is that my favorite is even loathed by the band itself.
Also, which Pink Floyd album is your least favorite? I would have to say The Dark Side of the Moon or The Wall on this one. While they have some good songs on them, the songs were generally too overplayed. The last time I listened to TDSotM, I felt it tossing it across the room or hitting it with a hammer or something.
Which album do you think that The Floyd could've improved upon? I feel that their albums without Waters weren't that great and could've been improved upon if they worked a little harder. It just felt to me like they didn't put that much of an effort into the last albums.
Also, what is your favorite and least favorite Pink Floyd song? I really like Flaming from Piper, although there are many more. My personal least favorite would probably be anything they released later, although there was the rare song, such as High Hopes, that was good.
And, which member's era did you like the most? I would say the Syd Barrett and the Post-Barrett, Early-Gilmour (up until Atom Heart Mother, after which I only liked two songs from Meddle...) would be the pinpoint of my favorite Pink Floyd era, although the last album with Roger (The Requiem of the Post War Dream, otherwise known as The Final Cut) and his Animals album (which called out parts of society in Dogs, Pigs and Sheep) were good.
Beside the point, but I have always liked most of their outtakes and rare material because of how it sounds and how different from the norm it is.

RE: The Thread For Pink Floyd Fans
Animals is my fave and Ummagumma is close.
I love all of Syd's era and his solo stuff.
Can't stand the post Waters stuff.

Agreed. There is no Pink Floyd after Waters (although I think there a couple rare instances of good post-Waters Pink Floyd, like High Hopes, and... um... well, there is... no, that song sucks...). Anyways, how were you introduced to The Floyd?
PS. If you want an ultimate copy of the Pink Floyd music, with rare stuff on it, PM me. I don't want to send it over this in case you know who is watching us from a certain place in a certain country, as it is a bootleg recording.

RE: The Thread For Pink Floyd Fans
I first learned about them when The Wall came out. I heard Young Lust on the radio and went down and bought the album. By the time The Final Cut was released I had all their official releases. I have all their music now including several bootlegs. I'm pretty sure I have all their solo stuff as well. All in all I like all of it, even the solo releases until Waters left the band. I like Gilmour's first solo record and Waters' Pros and Cons a lot.

That's cool. Which bootlegs do you have?

And that means what? SO WHAT if I like Pink Floyd? That was back when music was interesting. Now, well... best left unsaid.
You got a problem with that, pal?

That one was an interesting piece of work. Listened to it online and I say, well... yeah, that's interesting.
What kind of old shit are you referring to? I'm personally interested in hearing about it.

Hello, traveler.
This is an ancient account I have not used in a long time. My views have changed much in the intervening months and years.
Nonetheless, I refuse to clean it up. Pretending that I've held my current views since the beginning of time is what we in the industry call a lie. Asking people to do so contributes to moralistic self-loathing. "See, those people have nothing damning! I do! I'm truly vile!"
Because you can never be a good person with a single blemish on the moral record, I thought that simply entertaining some thoughts made me irredeemable. Though I don't care for his writing style, William Faulkner presents a good counterexample. He went from being a typical Southern racist to supporting the civil rights movement. These days we'd yell at him for that, probably.
People are allowed to change their views.
Nevertheless, this period of my life has informed some of how I am today. In good ways and bad ways. To purge it would be to do a disservice to history. Perhaps it will not make anyone sympathetic, but it may help someone understand.
If, after reading all this, you still decide to use the post above as evidence that I am evil today, ask yourself if you have never disagreed with the moral code you now follow. In all likelihood you did, at some point. If some questions are verboten, and the answer is "how dare you ask that," don't expect your ideological opponents to ever change their minds.

I believe he meant that if you want thread for specifically pink floyd "members", you're limiting it to the band members themselves...which nobody here is.

RE: The Thread For Pink Floyd Fans
I honestly don't know...there was this website I used to go to that had hundreds if not thousands of bootlegs you could choose from and dowload whatever. They had Floyd, Zeppelin, Hendrix, jazz dudes like Trane and Miles, punk stuff, whatever I downloaded is in my iPod now usually with names like LZMSG73- which would probably mean Led Zeppelin Madison Square Garden 1973. I don't think that site is up anymore.
