RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017
The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.
If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.
To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.
Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.
Gamestop. You people are fucking idiots. I've stepped into a Gamestop maybe 4 in the past 3 years and that's because it's across the parking lot from the movie theater and my friends like to drag me over there.
It takes an extra level of stupid to do business there. Any games I spend money on I get from Best Buy along with hardware, If I need anything else at a non-buttfucking price there is Amazon.
Learn how to money guys. srysly.

Meh, bestbuy prices are pretty much the same as gamestop. I get stuff at best buy too.

I used to work there. I was threatened with being fired for not being a complete fucking corporate tool like most are. I wasn't fired though because I did my job and I did it well. I refused to harass customers though. I eventually quit. In one year I went through four managers and they fucking sucked. Fuck Gamestop. I never buy anything from there anymore.
I get this all the time too, and the thing about them ripping you off when they "buy" your games from you is so true. This doesn't really happen at best buy, instead they come up to me every 30 seconds and ask if I need anything after clearly seeing that I told the previous TEN FUCKING PEOPLE THAT ASKED THE SAME QUESTION that I don't need anything ^_^

The people that work there are annoying, and the trade ins are complete rip offs. Awhile ago when they still had PS1 games I went there and traded in like 15 games (good ones too) and I got 9 bucks......... I never traded games there again. But they have a good return policy for pre-owned games (or they used to..?) where you could return it for a full refund within 7 days.
Also I went there to trade in my Dsi and they couldn't take because it didn't have the barcode sticker (the one that falls off after the first week of owning the DS >:(.) And the guy was rude, he semi-slammed the ds on the table and said "CaNt dO It!" and then I left.
Then recently I pre-ordered dark souls. There were signs all over gamestop that clearly said that if I pre-ordered I would get the collectors edition at no extra charge. When I got there, I picked up the game, and they said "Sorry, we stopped the collectors editions three weeks ago!" I had ordered only one week before and the signs were still up. If I would've pre-ordered at Walmart I probably would have had a better chance than at gamestop.
Say you have a game with a scratched disc. Well go to one gamestop that has the same game used. Buy the used game. Switch the discs. Go to another gamestop (preferably a different one) tell them you bought this used and it didn't work. Return it for all your monies back.
I don't know there okay. They were pretty nice at the midnight release of skyrim and gave the first 6 people in line mountain dew. IE me. And a bunch of other shit.
I used to go there a lot. I've never had a problem with disrespectful employees, but that's one of the benefits you get if you're a teenage girl walking in with her daddy to pre-order the newest Pokemon and Madden games.
I did get ripped off, though. I traded in all of my vintage GameBoy Color Pokemon games (I had all except green) for $5 apiece. I now go to this other store in the mall, and I just saw them for $30 each. Dad gave me a supportive side-hug when he saw what I was facepalming at.
I did get a really good deal on a GameCube, two dance pads, and DDR Mario Mix. No one else thinks it's a really good game, but doing Bowser's Castle on easy is exhilarating and on super-hard is impossible. I bought it when it was old tech, after the PS2 had come out, so the employees were basically putty in my and my dad's hands.
I should state that buying video game stuff with my dad is family tradition. He is the haggling MASTER, and who can say no to his silver tongue and the adorable face of a little girl? Certainly not a geeked-out GameStop employee. (No offense, UnSchoolShqwhat?) Especially since we're usually a few years behind the gaming curve, and go during the sales when they want to get rid of outdated systems. It's why I still haven't beaten Pokemon Black or the first Portal, and haven't even played Portal 2, but also why we almost never pay full price.

and nights of misery have been assigned to me.
When I lie down I think, ‘How long before I get up?’
The night drags on, and I toss and turn until dawn." Job 7:3-4
