RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

Substitute teacher meltdowns...

Ever had that angry sub teacher that you got on the wrong page? I've had 3 experiences last year, and no, I was not involved in causing it. 2 of them involved the same teacher.

The first one was with a male substitute teacher. He was subbing for my math class, and my math class failed to show any sort of competence. He was pretty strict, and when he was on his bad mood, he was pretty mean. He was apparently telling us that unproductive people in society always end up in jail or whatnot, but one of the students was arguing that society shouldn't be so authoritarian. It was quite entertaining, the kid was not send down. 3 kids were sent out of that class.

The second time was with the same teacher. This was far, far worse. He was subbing for my history class, and when I saw him, I had the "oh no, here we go again" feeling. The classroom that day was VERY loose. They didn't give a shit if the teacher's feelings got hurt, or that they got him angry. They just wanted to piss him off for their amusement. Once again, I had NO involvement in this, as I must stress out. So, all the kids were making fun of him, and he got really angry, yelling "SIT DOWN!" and "BE QUIET!". One girl was complaining, and she received some trauma I would imagine. The sub teacher started yelling right at her face, while she was sitting down. He called for security to come up.

Another girl was clearly not in a great mood that morning, and started arguing right in front of the teacher. The girl was telling that her father was going to defend her and would be mad, and the teacher yelled, in an angry tone, "I DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOUR DADDY!". They kept arguing back and forth, and at one point, the teacher raised his hand up, as if he was about to beat up the student. The security guard arrived at that moment, breaking up the two. Two students were sent out by the teacher. For some reason, later on, one of the student's mother would actually arrive (I think), apparently, she arrived at the right time, and the final 15 minutes, she was a peace keeper. That was really a freaky day in class, as my friend who sat next to me actually was supposed to be sent out by security guards, but left voluntarily before they arrived. When the bell rung, everyone ran out, yelling "FREEDOM!". That's a day I'll NEVER forget.

The following Monday (it was a Friday), the teacher didn't punish us at all. He said that he couldn't punish us with any sort of credible evidence, and simply said "I heard that you were good". I was expecting some sort of detention or apology letter or something. The fact that were weren't punished at all topped it all off.

A month or so later, we had another teacher. She was freaky. I had her before, she was really amusing. She treated the class and acted as if it were elementary school. I had her before, but we never got on her "bad" side. But it was that algebra class which would unleash it. We were all told to work on something. If the class did great, we would earn "superstars". I'm not lying. If we did bad, she would put negative marks. Get more than 5 and she would send kids out. Everyone was just fucking around, I was (pretending) to read my textbook. There were around 8 kids that were messing around that day, clearly not wanting to do any work. She got to the point where she said, "That's it, I'm calling security!". I was surprised she had the balls to do it. She was going to send out kids that didn't do any work.

It turns out she would only send out 5 culprits. There was one kid who was a friend of mine (he was never bad) who kept fooling around on a moving chair. What was really funny was that she refereed to him as "Trap", but that definitely was NOT his name. Another kid, confused (not doing his work, would get sent out) said, quote, "Trap? Who the hell is Trap?". Eventually, security arrived, but you could tell they couldn't take the teacher seriously, as she tried to explain her award and punishment system which made her look like a big idiot. Inevitably, those 5 kids I mentioned earlier were sent out (though 2 trouble makers weren't).

It didn't end there. There was one girl (who I personally disliked, she always rubbed me off the wrong way) who got into an argument with the teacher. She was called out by the teacher (though not by name) because she was explaining that you could tell a lazy student if she bought food from the nearby strip mall (kids often got out of school during lunch to get lunch which had a Starbucks, Ono Hawaiian Barbecue and a Popeyes). The girl, who had Starbucks, got into an argument with the teacher and fast, argued that she was a hard-working student who always maintained her grades. They had a back-and-forth argument which evolved into an economic argument, and eventually, she was sent out as well.

Those made for some crazy days in class. Looking back at those, these were actually pretty funny. Watching the educational system melt down before my very eyes. Much better than "learning". Once again, I'll stress that I was NOT involved in any of these incidents.
