RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Let's make our own country! Constitutional Convention Time!

Constitutional Convention Experiment

4 voting delegate spots currently vacant.

Weswammy here. Today we convene to write the Constitution of School-Survival-opia-land. First order of business, we've got ten slots for voting delegates, and one non-voting slot. First come first serve, and you have to have at least been here two months. I'll be the tie breaker vote if there's a disagreement. Also, we need somebody to fill the role of Calligrapher. The Calligrapher will take the proposals we vote yes on and put it into a the form of a Constitution. The Calligrapher doesn't have a vote. If nobody wants to be the Calligrapher, I'll take the job on top of being the Persident.

Ground rules: I am the moderator. I will go by the title of President of the Convention. As moderator, I decide when things happen and stuff. I basically keep things organized, and I promise I will try not to be a control freak.

There will be three stages to the making of the Constitution. The first stage will be deciding the nuts and bolts of how the system will work. We'll call this the Organization Stage. The next stage will be deciding what rights and responsibilities people have under the system. This will be the Rights Stage. The last stage will be us voting on what principles we want espoused in the Preamble, this will be the Preamble Stage. I will propose when to go onto the next stage, and it will take a simple majority to vote on my proposal to go on.

After each stage the Calligrapher will write out that portion of the Constitution as a draft and we will vote on if it is sufficient or not. If the Calligrapher's draft is voted down, it is expected those that voted against it will give feedback on why it was inadequate. Then we will vote on it again. Please refrain from voting against a draft because you don't agree with the proposals in it. Vote against the draft if it has bad grammar/spelling, poor formatting, or doesn't accurately incorporate the proposals that are supposed to be in it into it.

Each member here, including the President and the non-voting Calligrapher, can propose something to be added to the Constitution. A simple majority vote will either incorporate it into the Constitution or shoot it down. Please give your proposal a unique name. If there is a tie, the President (that's me!) will break it.

A proposal will look something like this:
Generic Name Wrote:Best Plan
There will be a unicameral legislative body called the Senate elected by the legislatures of the respective states. Each state will have two Senators. The Senators will have a term of seven years. Yada yada yada.

A vote will look something like this:
P.N. Guin Wrote:Best Plan: No

The nation of School-Survival-opia-land is composed of five regions with varying populations:
Mylifesucksland: 1 million
Lolololand: 1.5 million
New Philadelphia: 300,000
Old Philadelphia: 600,000
Spamville: 2 million

Delegate List:
a. President Weswammy
b. Caligrapher jnkbortka
1. jnkbortka
2. Comrade
3. Phrozen_Soul
4. John Tuttle
5. maxh
6. VACANT
7. VACANT
8. VACANT

10. Thought Criminal

EDIT: Useful resources.
The Fundamental Orders of Connecticut
Constitution of the United States w/o Amendments
U.S. Constitutional Amendments
Constitution of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, 1924
Constitution of Japan, 1946
Constitution of the Fifth Republic (France, 1958)
Hong Kong Basic Law

Also, I reserve the right to refuse applicants to be delegates if I think they are retards/will troll. Don't worry hatemylife, that doesn't mean you.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: THIS IS AN EXPERIMENT. I AM SORRY I HAVE NOT MADE THAT CLEAR. HOWEVER, WE WILL HOPEFULLY PRODUCE A CONSTITUTION THAT COULD BE USED IN REAL LIFE IF WE WANTED TO, BUT THE PURPOSE OF THIS IS MERELY ACADEMIC.
