RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Teabaggin' Time: some advice for the conservatives

So, who's been keeping up with the "Boo Hoo McCain Didn't Win Revolution" out there? All those relatively small (but exaggerated by Fox News) groups of conservatives who've taken to the streets in protest of taxes, calling Obama Hitler, saying that their people are being robbed, etc.
Some people are offended by them, others support them. Personally, and this is just my opinion, I think they're hilarious. For eight years they've had an administration that showed more respect for it's own shit-covered toilet paper than it did for the Constitutional rights of the American people (and had their own propaganda news channel that downplayed every peach march, saying all protestors were scum), and now the conservatives are still in shock that they aren't in control any more. Basically, it's a textbook case of "tyranny withdrawal." They got so used to living the high life up on Bush's throne that when they try to see how the other side lives, they end up making idiots of themselves.

For the first time in my life, I want to do something that I've never done before: offer some advice to the conservatives. I hate you guys, but I can't help but have a little pity now that you've come down to this.
Leave the protesting to the left. Liberals and subversives have over a hundred years' experiance, from the labor riots of the 1800s to the true revolution of the 60s. Frankly, you guys are noobs. Traditionally you are the Man and we are the punks in the streets, and when you try to make people think that those roles have been reversed, the entire fabric of the spacetime continuum becomes a hyper vortex that will kill us all. There's more to demonstrating than simply buying millions of teabags and then complaining about wasteful spending (!), you've got to have clear and coherant arguments that are simple enough to chant, but logical enough to hold up under a reporter's interview. It's just not your game. Sending out legions of guys in tri-cornered hats is all good and well, but when a local journalist asks them whether they think Obama is a socialist (far left) or a fascist (far right), and they reply "both," it's not exactly earning big points in the PR department. Most people just look you, say "aw, conservatives are so cute when they pretend like they're being oppressed," and keep voting Democrat because they don't want to align themselves with people who can't see irony when it comes up and fingers them in the ass.
Look, the most conservatives ever amounted to when it comes to grassroots movements was the KKK. Don't play the game if you can't play it right. I'm not saying that you guys have no place in demonstrations, that's not true at all. From what I've seen of those 1960s videos, the right can swing a mean baton into a hippie's face. They're also great shots, even with flowers stuck in the barrels of their guns. We're supposed to protest against whoever's harming the people, and you're supposed to march out in gas masks to beat the crap out of us. I mean, come on, the definition of "conservative" is someone who's opposed to social change. Next thing you know, conservatives will be freeing all those people who they sent to prison for smoking pot so that they can try to be the new hippies. It just doesn't work.
Good luck!

Re: Teabaggin' Time: some advice for the conservatives

Yeah, Ive seen them... and heard them.... and had to deal with parking shorteges because of them. The governer decided she wanted to have lunch at the culinary institute, so we had to put up with a bunch of pissed off dumbasses. This one dude had a big sign with a bowl of clam chowder on it and it said "Im steamed", shit was fucking funny.

Let it be known that you will not find me in the streets bitching over shit like this. While I may not be perticularly pleased with having to shell out extra geenbacks so the governement can continue to spend needed money on unneeded programs I do know that it is my duty to continue the support of my government. On the way in they actually stopped me to ask me to take arms with them and I told them that I will save myself from making a public mockery of myself and support my governemnt instead.

Whilst some work diligently there are those who ask why. I am one of them

I can't wait until Obama screws America up to the point that it just collapses on itself. That way, I can go up to every Obama supporter I know, and shout, "I FUCKING TOLD YOU SO" in all caps.

Re: Teabaggin' Time: some advice for the conservatives

I'm baffled by the number of anti-Obama sentiments, like he truly is the anti-christ. He isn't. I think the US government has a very long, long history of screwing things up (I was about to say f****** things up... are you allowed to swear on the forums?) but that doesn't mean we should consign Obama to the same fate. I think it's just because of mistrust about Bush that people automatically brand any president bad. Obama has already done a lot better than some presidents I could mention. He's a nice person and is clearly somewhat intelligent. Is he the next god? Well, no, this all remains to be seen but to assume Obama is going to destroy the country and to mercilessly attack him when he hasn't done anything yet is pretty stupid and is more of a gut reaction than anything else.

Ah, conservatives are just throwing a tantrum because they don't get to torture and spy on people anymore. If people just ignore them, they'll cry themselves out sooner or later.

ps. yes, you damn well fucking are allowed to swear on these motherfucking forums.

The biggest problem I have with Obama these days is that he's not persecuting the CIA guys who were doing the torture because he wants to "make peace" with the remnants of the old administration. But if they're going to hate him anyway, why not just do it?

obama has makin stupid lil gun laws too. like when you buy a hand gun you have to let them put a lock on it bring it to your car then bring the lock back. plus now with the practice shots they do in the millitary. instead of reuseing the brass they just melt it down.

First liberals protest while conservatives run the country, now conservatives are protesting and liberals are running the country. Soon the liberals will be kicking in your doors and taking your rights while the conservatives become the resistance. Interesting, the world's turning upside down. Confused

Re: Teabaggin' Time: some advice for the conservatives

Whether the president is conservative or liberal, the only people who get to run for president and represent parties are idiots who only care about the campaign at the beginning and who, when the get the office, can't handle the power.
Their energy is spent trying to please every single little subgroup of THEIR party.
I supported Obama, originally(because Sarah Palin scared me, and I couldn't respect a man who used the 'she's a woman' card to counter obama's 'I'm a black man' card...)
However, after that idiot 'bail out' policy along with the decisions he's been making,
(and I'm no a big politic studier or nothing, I'm just talking from what I'VE heard.)
After seeing Obama's stupid decisions, and only living with
A) Bill Clinton
or
B) George Bush
as president MY WHOLE LIFE,
I've lost my faith in presidents right now...

Carla Franklin may be a whore. She may be a wonderful, kind, moral woman. Seeing as I don't know her personally, I cannot know for sure. However, I find her actions (suing Google, requesting the personal info of her critics, getting angry over random internet idiocy that she should ignore and be bigger than, trying to get this site in trouble because of a few users' commentary on the situation, etc.) pretty ridiculous and unwarranted. If she didn't want people to to be talking about/judging her, well 1. that's impossible, she's a human, and 2. she shouldn't have been a model or agreed to be on film. AND 3. she DEFINITELY shouldn't have sued Google and made all this fuss over a few random idiots whom she probably won't ever know expressing their opinion. Mmkay? MMKAY.

Hidden stuff:
TRIGGER WARNING: THIS TRIGGER WARNING CONTAINS TRIGGER WARNINGS!

Dear Tumblrites: Despite your wrongly self-diagnosed PTSD, no line of scientific evidence suggests people can be triggered over the internet. Triggering works through the senses (i.e. smell, taste, touch, vision, hearing.) but it goes through real time; if you're not experiencing it in real life as it's ACTUALLY HAPPENING in your ACTUAL life, you CANNOT be triggered. The only exception to this is if you have a seizure, but then again, that's triggered by epilepsy (i.e. rapidly-changing flashing lights) NOT PTSD. Remembering a bad incident is NOT the same thing as having a flashback. When you remember, you think; when you flashback, you feel.

Osip Mandelstam Wrote:"I divide all of world literature into authorized and unauthorized works. The former are all trash; the latter--stolen air. I want to spit in the face of every writer who first obtains permission and then writes." The Fourth Prose, 1930.
Lukas Foss Wrote:That is why the analogy of stealing does not work. With a thief, we want to know how much money he stole, and from whom. With the artist it is not how much he took and from whom, but what he did with it.

Mmkay? MMKAY.
