RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Do you think Yahoo Answers is STOO-PID or smart?

I posted this question for people to answer:

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index ... 855AAR9DV5

I just wanted their opinion.

But, there's this stupid question some parent made (and some idiotic parent trolls thumbed down MY answer):

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index ... Mt15e2Buaa

And this is my answer ((I think some of you may or may not disagree with me, but I was really trying to give out acceptable advice for BOTH sides; parent and child.)):

"Don't, and I mean, do NOT look at her text messages unless they are very serious. Your daughter deserves to have her privacy RESPECTED, first of all.

Secondly, you just found out that she has strong feelings for a boy she likes. So what? Let her have her feelings!

If you do not like the idea of your 11-year-old daughter dating, you might as well tell her to wait until what you think is the proper age to start dating (I'd suggest at least the age of 13, but if you don't like THAT idea, then she can wait until she is in her freshman year of college).

If you do allow her to date, I believe that this might be the time to give her the "talk," so that she knows not to get... well, naughty when she gets in high school.

Edit: If you are a Catholic like me, according to the Ten Commandments (I think, I'm not so sure), you can't have sex until you are married.

And by the way, DO NOT listen to the people who are saying 'omg ur daughter ish heving sesh wight nao waah waah waah!' They don't know anything about your daughter's life. I'm pretty sure your daughter does not like the very thought of something so humane and sick."

Do you think it's WRONG to disrespect someone's privacy, no matter what age?

Rofl, that's just sickening. I think that guy forgot to include homework, study and assignments. Oh, and the lack of pay. But really, privacy is good. I have privacy. If I didn't I'd probably be tried as an adult and thrown in jail.

Re: Do you think Yahoo Answers is STOO-PID or smart?

Look what one of the answerers (Shaz) on Yahoo Answers just added in his little post!

Quote:add> wow so the thumbs down fairy visited...presumably because I did not spout that kids should be able to fly planes at 4 months old and crap like that. Well kids are kids and as such NO should not and never should get the same levels of rights as adults. Especially kids of this generation who tend to be dumb. recent studies show most American kids think WW2 was US and Germany vs Russia and cannot even use a map. Most kids have no concept of history or the context in which these rights exist and apply
so NO kids should not receive full adult rights but should receive American rights within reason
and again....when a kid supports him/herself finacially, emotionally, physically, legally, etc THEN the kid can claim they should have rights equal to an adult

RAGE!!! >O<

I hate it when people say, "no, kids don't deserve rights because they don't have adult responsibilities." The reason we don't have "adult responsibilities" is because we aren't allowed to have them.

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK YAHOO ANSWERS

Seriously, every damn question I've asked, people don't answer them. For example.

If I were to ask "How do I roll a joint?"
Someone would say "you shouldn't smoke, it's bad for you, god you're probably like 12 years old, get a life"

Fuck that shit. Try to stay off that damn site, it just pisses me off. lol

I've wondered the same thing.

Most of the answerers are correct in saying that since the parent pays for teh phone bill, they have the right to look at text messages, but that doesn't make it right. Moral and legal rights are two different things.

Re: Do you think Yahoo Answers is STOO-PID or smart?

One of the answers said that we don't have to work. BULLSHIT!!!!

Many teenagers have a job, take honors courses, sleep late and wake up early, and feel very jealous of our parents. If the argument about work is true, then the unemployed don't deserve free speech either.

Re: Do you think Yahoo Answers is STOO-PID or smart?

Having a job and taking honors are two different things for two different purposes. I'm suppose you have a valid point that the argument on work is valuable which can be applied to the unemployed.

As for the other posts, I agree entirely with some of you.

No, but seriously. This is why I stopped bothering with Yahoo Answers. It irritates the everliving piss out of me with how utterly retarded (something I rarely say) the members can be.

Another particularily stupid answer starts off like this "children and pre-teens do not pay taxes"

Next time I go shopping, I should bring my student ID with me, and see if I can't buy some stuff without paying sales tax.

So. Much. FAIL
It HAS happened, this is bullshit

It may also depend, though, on what he means by pre-teens. Anyways, you should be judged by capability, not age.

It's not about how hard you fight, but how much you obey your government or if you appeal to the media. (look at mainstream "artists" these days)
