Eliminating the post count feature

First off, as much as it pains me to say this. This is an Idea of proudsadists.

The Idea is that if we eliminate the post count feature there will be no reason to post whore and will in turn raise the quality of the posts on SS. Personally, I love this idea. I won't lie I am a post whore. but I believe in moderation. However some people *coughcough*TDF, AWOL*coughcough* that the forums suffer from quite a bit of cancer with people quoting for the fuck of quoting and always trying to get the last word in. I think we can greatly improve the quality of the forums with this.

UPDATE: soul's new idea is to initiate some kind of karma system. when someone post something helpful others can give it a thumbs up or thumbs down according to it being useful.

At first glance my reaction was that it was a brilliant idea. No reward for posting more = Less people posting for the sake of posting....

But as I think on the subject of it right now, message boards differ from a real life community because they create a visible timeline. What did I think of John Kerry's presidential campaign....two seconds and the search feature give me an answer. Did someone who dislikes me now not always feel that way....I can trace it back, see exactly what I said or someone else said or what was going on in their life..... Now obviously postcount isn't associated with this, but I'd like to think its one of the connecting aspects of the forum in which one identifies themselves with. I'm Vatman and in the last three years I've posted some 2100ish posts

I'm willing to try a karma-esc system, it couldn't hurt....I just don't think postcount is really that cancerous, at least not as much as microwave ovens.

I've been on several forums with a Karma system, it works effectively. I'd rather not have a thumbs up/down type though, because then we'd look like youtube and then..yeah.

The forums have spreading cancer by nothing but people just trying to post whore, and there's diminishing threads about actual serious business. If we don't replace the post count feature, I'm definitely saying something still needs to be done.

The problem is that the forums are busy enough that it takes awhile to read everything, so it's annoying when not everything seems interesting. I think that there isn't relatively more post-whoring than there used to be, but that it's just more noticeable because of changing expectations.

Mind, I think the forums are boring because the coolest people left and no one equally cool replaced them. This isn't the same thing as cancer.
