RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017
The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.
If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.
To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

16 Things I Wish They Had Taught Me in School
Nice. Reminds me what I was like at the start of 6th or so; seeing that, while school pitches itself as a place of learning, very little learning goes on there.
Don't play chess with pigeons-they'll just knock over the pieces, shit on the board and strut about like they won anyway.

I just wish when I was taught manners it was for the purpose of networking and diplomacy, not impressing people and hiding my personality.
Although we WILL deal with people, the humanities are never taught for the purpose if actually developing a theory on human nature. The purpose of which is to develop your own system of personal ethics and tact when dealing with people. Instead its *Book* followed by *Quiz* and isnt learning fun? Whats wrong with you?
Purity is to Believe only that which deserves it.
Wisdom is to follow only the Opinion which makes the best use of evidence.
Excellence is to be mindful of all these things in Living.

16 Things I Wish They Had Taught Me in School
I am most certainly victim to #6 and #7 in particular.
With #6, I used to actually take a risk in life. I avoid talking to people for the most part. I avoid where I could bump into classmates. I also avoid going out in public in general except for marching band.
With #7, I've done that since 3rd grade. It's a lifestyle. It's the only way I know how to live.
schoolsux's countdown until school ends:
177 days until i get out of freshman year (aka hell)
1280 days until I get out of prison (aka school)
(as of november 28, 2016)
also school

RE: 16 Things I Wish They Had Taught Me in School
I'll put my thoughts into a spoiler so this post doesn't seem longer than it really is.
1.) Never really knew about that. Or atleast, unknowingly do I do that.
2.) I've heard about it, but never really took much consideration into that.
3.) I would do that, but when it comes to schoolwork, I'm pressured to where I wouldn't think to do that. Even if I could think to do that, I couldn't be bothered to do it for school in particular.
4.) I really need to get into doing that more often.
5.) I try to be proactive, but being reactive is a bad habit for me. I am trying to fix that though.
6.) I absolutely agree. I personally don't see mistakes and failures as an inherently bad thing (unless in a situation where mistakes are the last thing you'd want to make, in which case, I'm going to say otherwise).
7.) Thanks to School and bullying due to my times of social ineptitude, I basked in self-loathing before I became disillusioned. After I started to realize I don't need to fix what wasn't broken with me, this hit me and became something I take into consideration.
8.) I can do this, but I'm not sure why I don't do this more often than I should.
9.) That's what I already do, actually.
10.) I am intuitively aware of this, but I somehow don't take this into consideration as much as I should.
11.) I am grateful, but I have a hard time showing that, especially when I'm in a negative mood or state of mind.
12.) Before disillusionment, this also was an issue for me before that fact. Again, once I found out what worked and what didn't work for me, I took this into consideration big time.
13.) I started to figure this out during my stage of disillusionment as well, and most of my fears I had were - at the very least - heavily subsided. The only fear that really continues to persist even on a day-to-day basis is death, but I really only think about that once in a while.
14.) This is what gave me that epiphany in a previous post of mine. Normally, I wouldn't have had a problem with this sort of thing, but ever since my stuff got taken away from me into a box, it kind of got to me and now, I got more easier to agitate and it was harder for me to calm down and relax because of it. Ever since that epiphany came to me, I've since reinstated this ideology back into my mind, and hope that I won't make the same mistake I've made from last time.
15.) Yes and no. Yes, I do forget things from time to time, but no, I don't forget everything. I still hold untold information full of memories that still retain into me to this day. It's only when I begin to put it down is when that memory might go away, but that depends entirely on the memory in question, and what factors are being attributed during that time.
16.) This is hard for me to grasp at first with a negative situation, but once I have time to calm down and really think about it, it starts to flow within' me for once.
