RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017
The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.
If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.
To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

Or else you are ineligible.
I'm athletic and I like to play sports but I'm struggling to be eligible.
What are your thoughts on this?

Well a 2.0 is bare minimum passing. I think its like C-.
If you really wanna sport, find community place. Or like a local club for the sport for youth. They give try outs so if u have skill, you got a chance.

I think it sucks and I have voted against it every time it has come up before my school board.

I honestly hate playing sports in school, because you're just being yelled at and marched around like a soldier to run around in circles around and around and around.

That's how it is in pretty much every professional sport(professional meaning it's done for more than just fun or as a hobby)

^Depends. There are definitely coaches out there who try different approaches, and I imagine this is even more apparent at a professional level. I'm pretty sure pro coaches have realized there are different ways to win.
On the subject: I never understood why this archaic system is in place. I mean, if they're good at sports, why not just let them follow their path mostly into sports? Stop forcing down shit they don't care about. What matters is their damn ability...

^^^^^
I just love sports because naturally I'm very competitive, and I'm taking two gym-related classes, so i'm getting in even better shape. I just find sports really fun. Especially when you and your opponent are on around the same level of skill.
At 5'5" and 187lbs you most likely wouldn't consider me really athletic, but for my size I feel like I am. I feel like I'm more in the 160 range and I've been told that I look like it too. Most of my weight comes from my belly and legs. My belly's decreasing in size from weight-training and my legs are getting more muscular.
I played wiffleball in weight-training today, scored a run, and got two outs. I really enjoy exercise and I will do whatever it takes to get better in shape.

Realistically, any mediocre coach doesn't just use shouting and marching. While shouting and marching might come up, if that's the core strategy of the coach, they obviously don't know what they're doing.
I'm thinking of becoming a coach. I gotta read up on some sports. I know soccer best, followed by some volleyball and baseball. Coaching is a nice position to train leadership skills and perhaps gain some reputation if you can get a team to play better(though sport efficiency of a team is a tricky thing that relies on factors that are often out of the coaches hands)
