RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

RE: They're trying to ruin the internet again.

DRM already has a bunch of shitty flaws. All DRM ever does if screw things up and screw over everyone but the corporation using it. It also makes things unneccesarily complicated.

Perhaps I should've used bad grammar/punctuation/spelling in order to show that I was joking. Shrug Or were you joking too? I can't tell. Fucking Internet.

RE: They're trying to ruin the internet again.

Indeed. As if typing on a mobile device isnt a bitch, I cant portray tone. So I generally resort to using improper(awfully improper because my relationship with english grammat isnt very close. Sometimes I like to warp the rules into a format I believe better portraying my thoughts and meanings. Language is not yet advanced enough is the reason) grammar/spelling.

In summary, the Internet needs to be recoded in order to portray emotions correctly.

The problem is that DRM is needed. Because otherwise people will steal things.

Jop confirmed Sony representative.

But really, people circumvent DRM easily, and the only people it hinders are honest people.

The thing is though it's shown that DRM DOESN'T WORK. All it does is punish those that actually bought it instead of those that didn't, besides most people that pirate shit get it from groups that know their way around DRM and can disable it, plus this will lead people to pirating as well.

I only pirate games if

A) They used to sell physical copies but not anymore
B) It has DRM besides Steam.

Remember the Nintendo DS, and the disastrous piracy scene for it? Well, the Nintendo 3DS now has really strong DRM and that piracy scene has basically disappeared. And it doesn't "punish those that actually bought it" like shitty DRM.

So, DRM does work.

They're trying to ruin the internet again.

I just bought $105 worth of old DRM-free games, because they're good games.

Quite often I'll buy a game and then still pirate it anyway, just so I don't have to deal with the copy protection (if it's particularly annoying, as they often are).

Actually it hasn't. Also keep in mind that the 3DS was a large change in the workings of the 3ds, so people are still trying to figure out how the fuck it works...just give it a bit longer(also keep in mind that the 3ds too awhile to gain steam)

As you speak, there are modders working on it, and 3DS has more years in front of it than behind it.

They're trying to ruin the internet again.

Hey, W3C.
How about you ban YouTube? Obviously, they are 'pirating' content. What about Facebook, were they can share things that are 'copyrighted'? Oh yeah, and ban public domain. And downloading files. Google. BING. Email and, of course, the 'dangerous' 'copyright-infringing' Wikipedia. How about next, you ban the Internet? The whole internet has 'pirated' content.

But, no, don't stop there! How about you ban Telnet, too? And TOR? And proxies? HELL, even ban ANDROID DEVICES! They are basically a mobile version of the Linux OS. Next, BAN WINDOWS AND APPLE, TOO! They 'stole' from UNIX to build their computers! Ban the new Atari, Nintendo, and other gaming OSes! And phones! And texting! WHY DON'T YOU BAN THE WHOLE FUCKING PLANET, WHILE YOU'RE AT IT?! It is obviously pirated content! Ban people, too, as they are obviously pirated copies of the god in various religion! Ban school, too! They shamlessly copy ideas from other people. Ban individual thought, as it may bring up copyright infrigement! THEN, of course, ban THE WHOLE. FUCKING. UNIVERSE. It is full of copyright infrigement.

So, I was obviously being sarcastic (except the school part, of course...) about what I was saying, but that's exactly what W3C is saying. I mean, come on, guys! You should know better! You people act like morons when you are supposed to be programming geniuses! I hope you idiots realize that DRM is a load of shit, which would go down as a badly executed idea, just like gun control, compulsory education, and various other bad ideas in history.

FUCK DRM! GO 'PIRACY'!

W3C didn't ban anything. They made it possible for people to prevent theft, of their own things.
