RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

USA is becoming more and more socially liberal, while republicans as a party are not by nature. I think either libertarians will take over as the second dominant party, or the republican party will slowly become libertarian.

Thoughts?

The purpose of life is a life with a purpose
So I’d rather die for a cause than live a life that is worthless
I don’t need the circus or the day of national observance
I need you to think for you and stop being a servant

Either option sounds good to me - it would be great to see a meld of conservative and libertarian values to counteract the rising influence of liberals, some of whom take an authoritarian stance. This new age thinking stuff is really getting on my nerves, too...

I think the republicans will end up becoming abolished-which is a good thing. I honestly hate the republican party, and I feel like America will be better without it. The Republican`s failure to connect with minorites, gays, women and young people will end up being their great demise.

What do you think is going to happen to the republican party?

^There's no such thing as a "greatest demise."

Hello, traveler.

This is an ancient account I have not used in a long time. My views have changed much in the intervening months and years.

Nonetheless, I refuse to clean it up. Pretending that I've held my current views since the beginning of time is what we in the industry call a lie. Asking people to do so contributes to moralistic self-loathing. "See, those people have nothing damning! I do! I'm truly vile!"

Because you can never be a good person with a single blemish on the moral record, I thought that simply entertaining some thoughts made me irredeemable. Though I don't care for his writing style, William Faulkner presents a good counterexample. He went from being a typical Southern racist to supporting the civil rights movement. These days we'd yell at him for that, probably.

People are allowed to change their views.

Nevertheless, this period of my life has informed some of how I am today. In good ways and bad ways. To purge it would be to do a disservice to history. Perhaps it will not make anyone sympathetic, but it may help someone understand.

If, after reading all this, you still decide to use the post above as evidence that I am evil today, ask yourself if you have never disagreed with the moral code you now follow. In all likelihood you did, at some point. If some questions are verboten, and the answer is "how dare you ask that," don't expect your ideological opponents to ever change their minds.

You're talking as though the party has already lost the bulk of its support.

What do you think is going to happen to the republican party?

The republican party in the US is already split into the more extremist Tea Party ideologue's and the more moderate thinkers. The probabem with the Tea Party's hijacking of the republican party is that it causes roadblocks in policy reform and ... getting anything done, because they aren't willing to compromise on anything. There's a lot of disagreement within, that's never a good thing. People are starting to become aware of it, eventually it will lead to decreasing influence of the republicans in general as people begin to see how much the Tea Party faction is hurting America. Democrats will hold more positions in Congress and as president in the coming years.

RIP GORE GOROTH

He was an hero. He will always be remembered.

Its getting close, there is no denying the country is more socially liberal every year.

I'm pretty sure conservative economics are here to stay, but not conservative social values.

What do you think is going to happen to the republican party?

There's currently a groundswell of conservative-libertarian youthful vigor in the Republican party that is positioning itself to be an important factor in the party's future politics. These people are the remnants of the Ron Paul liberty movement and once the old traditional conservative guard dies off they'll be really important. People like Rand Paul, Thomas Massie, and Justin Amash are part of this new and growing wing and have come to be important voices in the debate in Washington.

The Republican Party, due to America's broken duopoly political system, is going to keep existing as a major party. But it is undergoing change.

Alright , I will correct myself. The Republican`s obviously haven`t lost those groups. however these groups are growing in size and are effecting the electoral demographics. The Republican`s are losing because they can`t those groups votes and they have lost touch with the middle class. It seems to me that the Republican`s votes are coming from rich white men and poor southern white men. That isn`t enough however, this will lead to the Republican`s demise.

The Republicans (no apostrophe, especially not a backwards one, by the way) still have about half the middle class, same as they did four years ago and the four years before that. It's a shame it's only half, seeing as liberals don't give a damn about any of them (but are very focused on the lower class for some strange reason).

Also, you might want to check your facts when it comes to the younger demographic. Not as many new voters are leaning Dem as you'd hope.
