RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Guess I'll let agent smith sum these up.

Agent Smith: Can you feel it Mr. Anderson? Closing in on you? Oh I can, I really should thank you after all. It was, after all, it was your life that taught me the purpose of all life. The purpose of life is to end.

Agent Smith: I'd like to share a revelation that I've had during my time here. It came to me when I tried to classify your species and I realized that you're not actually mammals. Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with the surrounding environment but you humans do not. You move to an area and you multiply and multiply until every natural resource is consumed and the only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet. You're a plague and we are the cure

Agent smith was such a wise being that god is not even worthy enough of a title for him.

They should make a movie dedicated to Agent smith.

AgentSmith: The great and powerful Oracle. We meet at last. I suppose you've been expecting me, right? The all-knowing Oracle is never surprised. How can she be, she knows everything. But If that's true, then why is she here? If she knew I was coming, why didn't she leave?
[sweeps plate of cookies off table]
Agent Smith: Maybe you knew I was going to do that, maybe you didn't. If you did, that means you baked those cookies and set that plate right there deliberately, purposefully. Which means you're sitting there also deliberately, purposefully.
Oracle: What did you do with Sati?
Agent Smith/Sati: Cookies need love like everything does.
Oracle: You are a bastard, you know that?
AgentSmith: You would know, Mom.

Your perception of life is entirely dependent of how long/well you sleep, the nutrients and chemicals you ingest, and how well you maintain your body.

Re: Suicide: A Coward's Death

Strong to win, Stronger to be willing to lose?

I would have to give context. I mean suicide before, say an imminent attack on you instead of standing and dieing for a cause. (Excluding being tortured for information, or turned into a zombie) That would be a cowards death.

But killing yourself because your done? I'm not sure, Willing to go up against your natural incline to live. And as an act of defiance, You can't punish the dead do the dead win?

Had to move on. Account is dead.

Suicide: A Coward's Death

There are some circumstances where suicide is an option, IMO.
If I was a vegetable sitting in a hospital bed all day, I'd want nothing more than to die. I'd do everything in my power to find someone or some way to kill myself. Being a vegetable is such a terrible fate, you literally just lay there and do nothing. Life ceases to have any purpose or enjoyment, as you can't DO anything.

That's the only example I can give off the top of my head. Overall, it depends on WHY you committed suicide and the circumstances surrounding it that define if it was a "coward's death" or not.

RE: Suicide: A Coward's Death

Out of boredom, I mentioned suicide to my cousin and his family the other day (reason for the bump) and they blasted me for it. More or less criticizing people who commit suicide as "selfish, stubborn cowards". They said that there is always support, either from family, friends, teachers, etc, and that is no reason to commit suicide for any reason. Ending one's life , leaving the world of family and friends who love and care for you is "twisted."

You can't fully understand suicidal feelings until you experience them for yourself.

RE: Suicide: A Coward's Death

^i agree wih this, at least.

You are only a little bitch if you commit suicide without sitting down with someone and picking through every reason there is that you want tp end it before making a final descision. Most suicide cases could be prevented by just talking it out. The way I see it is if you have overcome fear of death, than you are unstoppable. Do drugs, go skydiving, do a ton of risky fun shit your sane self would never do. Maybe then life might seem worth living.

The purpose of life is a life with a purpose
So I’d rather die for a cause than live a life that is worthless
I don’t need the circus or the day of national observance
I need you to think for you and stop being a servant

RE: Suicide: A Coward's Death

For the terminally ill, let them go out on their own terms. Without hope for recovery and with time dwindling down, these people truly don't have any reason left to live. In many cases of the terminally ill, it would prevent much pain and suffering to end life earlier than nature had intended.

Somebody who is suicidal because of an inability to deal with their emotional problems should be stopped. Not because of what suicide would do to his family. Not because it's the cowardly way out (it isn't). But instead because people who are suicidal are in a state of emotional distress where they can't make a sound decision for themselves. Usually, people who attempt go on to only regret it later.

Let's say that a person has logically thought it out, and has decided that he wants nothing else but to end his life. In that case, he won't make it obvious to people. If he has logically thought it through, then he'll know people will stop him if he tells anybody. He'll just do it. I'd respect that decision.

Who am I? Who are YOU?

Suicide: A Coward's Death

To sum it up by use of cliches:

- If someone is attempting to commit suicide as the permanent solution to a temporary problem, stop them, for they are cowardly.
- If someone is attempting to commit suicide because they are trying to escape a bad part of life, stop them, for they are cowardly.
- If someone is attempting to commit suicide because they used logic to come to the conclusion that they are no longer needed and are prepared for death, let them, for they are being brave.
- If someone is attempting to commit suicide due to the pressure of supporting socialism, campaigning on behalf of Neo-Nazis, or being Justin Bieber fans, offer to help them.

Public Service Announcement: First world problems are still problems.

Suicide: A Coward's Death

Pretty much what 5 said. Calling a suicidal/distressed person 'cowardly' isn't going to help them, so whatever you do, don't do that. If you can't help them, at least don't make it worse.
