RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

I can't wait till the previous generation passes.

At least half of the generation before us belives that we should be wasting our time playing outside instead of doing something productive inside. Playing outside isn't productive. Its not like we are sitting inside staring at nothing. Then if we are not playing outside we should be out doing something. What am I suppossed to do outside?

Well this only seems to apply to western cultures because countries like Korea is the complete opposite. They prefer using their minds instead of being athletic, so they spend alot of their time mastering video games, and they even have things like Starcraft arenas where people watch people play starcraft against eachother.

Re: I can't wait till the previous generation passes.

Yeah...but Korea is fucking insane. People have dropped dead of starvation playing Starcraft. People, not person. This has happened more than once. I really don't think that we should hold that culture up as our role model. Going outside is a good thing, it doesn't mean you're an idiot or a jock or even an athlete, it just means you're getting some vitamin D and experiencing the world firsthand instead of through a computer screen. Moderation, dude. Moderation. You can do both. You don't have to choose between staying inside all the time or outside all the time.
It really seems like you're really picking a fight where there isn't one.

Lolthis. I hate it when people from either side of the, let's say spectrum, say that going outside is bad or being inside is bad.

TRIGGER WARNING: THIS TRIGGER WARNING CONTAINS TRIGGER WARNINGS!

Dear Tumblrites: Despite your wrongly self-diagnosed PTSD, no line of scientific evidence suggests people can be triggered over the internet. Triggering works through the senses (i.e. smell, taste, touch, vision, hearing.) but it goes through real time; if you're not experiencing it in real life as it's ACTUALLY HAPPENING in your ACTUAL life, you CANNOT be triggered. The only exception to this is if you have a seizure, but then again, that's triggered by epilepsy (i.e. rapidly-changing flashing lights) NOT PTSD. Remembering a bad incident is NOT the same thing as having a flashback. When you remember, you think; when you flashback, you feel.

Not to mention the graphics suck, player models resemble hairless apes,
the characters are boring and unconvincing, the parties formed tend not to last long as most have to disband to do those stupid job quests that not only take absurd amounts of time but are also boring.

The only time the game is fun is when you go against the rules of the game and even then the developers were moral fags who made it so that you can't win if you do.

Outside sucks. Yesterday I went to a 7-11 with my money I painstakingly earned from HOURS of grinding; when I came up to the register to talk with the shopkeep, she told me the energy drink potion I had wished to purchase cost $5.00 FOR A LOUSY CAN! Afterwards, I saw a newbie on the street who looked like he din't know what he was doing; like he had been con'd from an older player (he was dressed in rags and had a beard which made me guess he hasn't shaved in weeks) So I offered him my energy elixir, but all he said was "I wanna dollar'!" So I says "This soda costs $5" but he kept insisting he wanted a dollar, so I finally said "Look; do you want it or not!?" So then he spits on me and calls me a communist and walk off. This is what I get for being nice.

I'm staying inside from now on. Mad

I don't know, outside can be sort of fun if you play it right. I'd suggest joining the thieves guild and shit like that. Then you don't have to spend all day doing those stupid ass job quests.

This.

At the moment, it is cold outside and I can't be bothered to walk anywhere. There is nothing that I can think off that interests me outside at the moment. I think I'll stay in where I can shoot fireballs at magical dragons.
