RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Don't complain that it's too long. If you were really interested, you'd read it. Please keep those opinions to yourself.

I tried reading some of his other stuff, but I found it too boring. I'll read this, and maybe give some of his other stuff a try. I'll get back to you when I'm done.

Anarchism is stupid. Don't give me that "Oh, there were so many successful anarchic communities that existed!".

Guess what happened to all those "successful" communities? They failed, hard. This was because of two reasons:

The people realized it was stupid.

An organized outside forced invaded.

The Anarchist revolution is near! We will crush the evil government by drawing the Anarchy symbol on school desks, listening to alternative rock, watching Loose Change, and shouting:"Anarchy rules!!!".

which is why either the whole world has to be anarchist, or nobody. but it doesn't mean anarchism's hopeless.

I think Buenaventura Durruti is a pretty cool guy. eh kills fascists and doesnt afraid of ruins.
The quickest way to kill a revolution is to wait for it.

Uhhhhg, yes it does. You said it'd have to be the whole world or nobody. Good luck convincing that African dictator to stop making millions of his citizens.

It doesn't have to be everyone. I read a good essay on this a while ago; if I find it I'll post it here.

And how do you go about that considering the fact people live in such a repressed society that they have an outstanding fear for the government? See north korea.

i didn't say it would be easy, but it's been done. look at the soviet union, look at Haiti. look at apartheid south africa. look at nazi-controlled france. it's not impossible.

OK fine, so the apartheid thing is gone, but all the racism didn't just magically disappear.

lol, i saw that movie Catch a Fire, jesus, your country was fucked up! a long time ago my dad used to work down in washington giving tours, and he told me that the south african embassy showed the group this video with a mall, and the white and black escalators were exactly the same, with all the blacks nicely dressed and happy. all the kids knew it was bullshit from the start and just made fun of it. Nelson Mandela FTW!

Yeah, those are examples of fascism falling, but it still takes a while, and even then they probably still want government to be strong (see: Putin and Russias tendency towards fascism).

The thing that still bothers me about S. Africa is that there is still major prejudice and there are still many major issues there that most of the Western World fails to understand because it doesn't exist or is minimal comparatively to S. Africa. The issue isn't as simple as government regulation. Hell, even Gandhi was a racist towards Africans, calling them Kafirs and all that. Everyone has their own agenda. Woohooo!

Yup, lots of people seem to think SA is now a happy Rainbow Nation and everybody loves each other... at least, that's what all the ads on TV say, so it has to be true, right? Razz
Racism is still everywhere, and what makes it worse is how there are laws regulating the percentage of black people businesses have to employ or else they get in trouble and stuff. That really doesn't make a lot of people want to stop being racist. TV coverage of workers striking doesn't help either... they just look so dumb when they do those little dances... Noo

Yeah, the best way is to let people do their own thing. I'm not saying we need a whites only corporation, but by regulating it aside from the basic anti discrimination laws you end up producing more discrimination.

I remember watching something about south africa when gay marriage was leglaized there, and some person said "Well, we're a very diverse nation, and this is proof", and I just laughed. Diversity doesn't nessecarily equal pure fun, especially when you consider the fact theres a lot of bitterness.

Noam Chomsky on anarchism

Chomsky makes a great case against US imperialism and the current capitalist system.

However, I can't say I agree with his anarchist/libertarian socialist views nor do I believe they can bring about a peaceful world.
