Don't get me wrong I like my mindless One Piece and DeathNote as much as the next geek. But the omnipresent issue that undermines anime as a medium...is the fact that anime...TELLS you whats happening. Constantly. Its patronizing at best, but about 80% of all dialogue is implied guideline to the story.

I enjoy the subtle imagry, and the fantasy that is able to be captured through moving drawings.... But to be honest. Anime is probably at the same level as most musical theater in terms of its ability to create a compelling storyline.

I find a lot of them extremely interesting and they keep my attention. I get what you're saying though. Sometimes the bluntness of it all is a bit much, but eh, I still like the storyline's and all of that.

I've seen some animated shows that are different though. One being the show Monster. Not sure if it would stand up to your scrutiny, but it's certainly not for the dim witted.

One of the main things that turns me away from anime is that in most of them, there is just way to much dialouge. And of that dialouge a sizeable portion is the name of one of the other characters. It drives me nuts.

Naruto was alright when I was younger, now I watch it when it comes out simply because I saw all of the other ones. It's really kind of a shit show... Can be an interesting 30 minutes, but a lot of the time it's silly, and geared towards twelve year olds.

Dragon Ball Z - lol.

The Naruto manga is actually pretty good with that, as they often have to relay information to multiple people.

The Dragon Ball manga was all Rule of Cool, but the plot had a helluva lot of intricacies and characters, so the immense amount of dialogue was needed, and the action was of a decent size.

Can't comment on Inuyasha, as the art style put me of within the first few pages.

This is not my experience with anime. I usually have no clue what's going on. I figured it was because either 1) I'm missing japanese cultural references, or 2) the japanese fad/style is to make movies that are all ambiguous and can mean whatever the fuck you want them to mean.

Should I start my Naruto story from before shippuden or after? Before as in Sasuke's still there and they just grad. from the academy or after meaning Sasuke's long gone and Naruto just came back from two years of training.

Cowboy Bebop FTW. Seriously, there is nothing in that show that makes it noticeably"anime" besides the fact that it's animated. Just an awesome sci-fi series, period.

I'm not saying that anime is all bad, there are a handfull of compelling story lines within the genre. And animation in on-itself is a brilliant medium for one to express themselves.

It's the simple fact that if not most then at least much more often then naught. Anime is a tedious and patronizing endeavor to read or watch.

Also women have ridiculous breasts in them.

Have you not been keeping up with books, films, paintings, photographs and games lately? Most of them are patronizing and unworthy of being watched/read/played/looked at, but there are still some occasional glimpses of an actual good work. They're just very few and far between.

You've either been watching too much comedy or too much hentai. Most women in anime have proportionate breasts, or even breasts that are small for their size.

Awesome fucking show.

I don't even have a problem with "patronizing shows" if they hold my interest. If it's interesting, I honestly don't care. I suppose they would be a bit better if they weren't so blatant though.

The only anime I've been a fan of is Dragonball Z. Getting up early in the morning and switching to CheezTV (Australian show).

I would never have paid a bit of attention to anime if it weren't for the fact that both of my best friends are in love with it. My high school bestfriend made me watch inuyasha and cowboybeebop, and my college bestfriend made me watch dragon ball z, fruits basket, and so much other crap I can't remember.
Not that I'm really complaining. It's fun to watch stupid stuff sometimes.

"My dick is bigger then yours"

"Oh yeah, my power level is over 9000 inches!!"

" What 9000 inches? No way that could be right."

Dialouge goes on for 3 episodes until they shoot each other with powerballs and cheesy explosions.

Berserk was FTW because the storyline actually made a lick of sense. I haven't seen too many others that were much better then what I just described.
