RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017
The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.
If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.
To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.
-SoulRiser

Re: Reformation of SS leadership?
Because, as I said, it's callous. Soul added people to the mod and admin list because she thought they would do a good job at organizing things on the site. This entails a certain amount of trust and pride. And now, because you think we're supposed to be leaders, you're thinking of getting rid of those people. It's really pathetic.

Agrees to title. It's true, we need some reformation. Hell, I barely get to use mod powers, so I just go about correcting spelling etc.

Don't do that either.
I highly suggest Mobb Deep's albums The Infamous and Hell on Earth, if you have not listened to it yet.

Correcting spelling is okay. And don't worry about not using mod powers. When the bots start swarming in, you'll get to use them.

Re: Reformation of SS leadership?
honestly what do mods do here? I mean theres no rules against swearing political opionions etc.
Basicly all they do is move spammy retarted posts to the recycle bin.
Had to move on. Account is dead.

Re: Reformation of SS leadership?
I'm a mod. I fixed messed up mark-up, and delete posts that were accidentally posted two times. I've moved a topic before as well.
I am not some sort of leader. If I wanted to be, I could be without being a mod. Mods really just keep the site clean and readable. In emergencies, they will have others tasks.
There is no harm in having a lot of mods.
Furthermore, having the very limited number of mods you suggested, and even less admins could prove quite fatal. Keep in mind timezones-having a huge list will keep the forums stocked with mods even during US off-peak hours. And in the case of an emergency, having some people around is a must.
Don't take life so seriously, it isn't permanent.

lots of mods is no problem, to me at least. i use my mod powers to move spam topics to the recycle bin, and i think i split a topic once too .

Re: Reformation of SS leadership?
I like that idea; I mean, you go on the site, and all the regular posters you meet always seem to be mods. Having less would be a good idea, and I like the thought of an election to vote these people in.
Because I dig you, like Aussies dig pies, like Born-Agains dig Jesus, like Jesus dug guys.

Why would less be good?

Re: Reformation of SS leadership?
Just personal preference, I... honestly can't back up that statement. Its not like I'm strongly supportive of that election idea, I just thought it would be interesting. With more mods, maybe it feels like there's less responsibility among them since there's so many...? I really don't know.

Re: Reformation of SS leadership?
I think we should either have almost no mods, or lots. Either way we need most people to be on the same power level to prevent corruption. The idea of elections sounds good to me, at least for admins if doing it for every mod gets too messy.
I think Buenaventura Durruti is a pretty cool guy. eh kills fascists and doesnt afraid of ruins.
