RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017
The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.
If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.
To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.
-SoulRiser
The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.
Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.
The purpose of the main site (as stated on the intro page) is:
Quote:This is a support site for students who can't stand being forced to go to school. We are not telling you to drop out, rebel or do anything in particular. What you do is your decision and yours alone, we can just provide support and information for whatever choice you may make. What works for one person won't necessarily work for everyone. The point is: the choice is yours to make. And if, for whatever reason, other people refuse to let you make that choice, you will always find someone here willing to listen to you.
That's where the forums come in. The purpose of the forums is to be a refuge of sorts, where you can come in and be accepted for who you are, and find people who understand you, or at the very least are willing to listen.
The secondary purpose of the forums is to plan and do things to improve the school systems, and/or educate people about alternatives.
EDIT: Reform-related stuff is now happening at EFO. So go there.
Other than that, pretty much anything goes here, as long as it doesn't interfere with the purpose of the forums in any way.
EDIT: Actually, this thread is an even better explanation of what this forum stands for.

BTW, it says my 'level' is 'defiant', how do I change that? Please help?
Also, to answer your question, I am homeschooled now. Well I mean I was but not anymore, I'm out of that now. Kids at my school back then were jumping up and down like I have reached my salvation or something when I told them, but I'm more humble than that, heh. Hope I can get to be a doctor after 1 EDIT: 4 (How did I miss that key?) years of college. Plus like 4 years of med school.

I haven't been inside one for about 9 years, so any information I have may be horribly outdated. Other than that, pretty similar to UK/Australia as far as I can tell.

It changes automatically based on your post count. You can get a list of the levels here.

I love this place. Thankyou to whoever opened it. School truly sucks. Particularly the system of the place I hail from - India. It's education system is like a machine that keeps churning out people with high degrees stamped on their heads, but not real intellect value. Each time I enter those ghastly gates I feel something die within me
It's probably the zeal to look beyond that looming building.
I agree 100%. I mean if school is (supposedly) a system,
all the parts ( students, teachers, parents, cirriculum)
are to work in conjunction ( in other words) along side each
other.
If that's your mission statement, you are failing completely. Not only have l found members who have been on this site since years back telling me that the point of this site isn't to do what your mission statement says, but sometimes, they seemingly tend to promote conformity, the thing they're fighting against.
One person told me that this site is absolutely not trying to create a school reform when you just said, "The secondary purpose of the forums is to plan and do things to improve the school systems, and/or educate people about alternatives. " Which is pretty much what a reform is.
This site is a joke.

There's this free speech thing, people can say whatever they want, and whatever they say is their opinion and not the official 'stance' of the site or whatever. And yes, we do have some clique-ish behaviour here. You'll find that on pretty much every forum. The bitching is supposed to be contained in the Frag Arena forum (you need to join a group to have access to it), but not everyone takes that seriously. I need to do some cleaning up it seems...

l'm going to be really blatant. Your site is full of shit. Have you heard of NATO? That stands for No Action, Talk Only. Your action is totally opposite to your descriptions of things. You talk big - promise big but your action is compromising and little.
Your mission statement is highly exaggerated. l know it give people a false sense of hope, but the truth is better than a highly fictitious lie that deludes people. l thought this site at least had morals, it doesn't even have that.

l'll forgive you if you're more blatant about it, and don't try to feed everyone shit about how this site is trying to accomplish such Utopian sort of things. Also, give me specifics on how to make sites that make money. Like the best way to do this.

Yeah except we don't though. The very first thing you goddamn see

Any guides for taking over your school and renaming it Twelvia are there for your own use
I also like how you're the ONLY PERSON EVER to be that dissapointed about the nature of these forums that you'd join just to write xbox huge posts and generally be a pretentious fuck
then again you're probably shotgunfart though so this is pretty much a waste of time

What promise? Where? I don't remember promising anything.

How does a site have morals? A site isn't even conscious.
Notice how http://www.school-survival.net and forums.school-survival.net are on seperate subdomains? It's because they're seperate. You're taking all the people here and all their posts and using it to judge the entire site and everything it stands for. You, sir, are doing it wrong.

Just because someone creates something doesn't mean it's what they want it to be.
