RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017
The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.
If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.
To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.
-SoulRiser

Re: Education Freedom Organization Discussion Thread. (V2)
Updated OP Wrote:I removed the poll. The Education Freedom Organization, or EFO, by popular vote, is now the official name of this organization. So instead of calling it "The organization" we can call it EFO now. Fucking finally.
Now, onto our next order of business. What should we call the website? Preliminary ideas that were suggested were edfreedom.org EFO.org* and EFO.com*
EFO.org and EFO.com are both already taken, so we can't use those.
Now, get your asses in here and help decide on the name of the website. We need to get this fucking thing moving. I would run EFO my damn self, but that's impossible. I don't have the resources, time, resolve, or patience to spend my life on this, so you fuckers better start helping or it's going to die, and we won't get anything done. Step the fuck up.

Re: EFO Discussion Thread. (V2)
Alright, Edfreedom.org it is.
So, what we have to do now is design the site. All I know is that we decided on using forums to vote, and each person has to have a certain amount of posts in order to vote, that way people don't just throw off the voting by signing up multiple times.
Anyways, so trollriser, are you going to manage the site?

Anybody have any ideas? I was thinking about using word press as a CMS or something... I dun know, though. Soulriser, you'll probably end up managing the hosting or whatever for the site, so what do you think?
Anybody else have any ideas?

Wordpress is nice. I totally recommend that. Not sure what to recommend for forum software. phpBB3 is a bit of a pain. myBB seems cool, though I haven't found a decent anti-spam plugin for it yet.
There's this other thing I read about that has blogs, wiki, and forums all in one, but I forget the name.

myBB is really, really great. And there are a lot of spam plugins for it.
And I can make you a theme for it =D

The blogs, wiki and forums thing sounds like Joomla. I never tried it, but it's decent from what I hear. I have experience with wordpress, and I rather like it... Maybe we could use that as a CMS... All we really need out of the forums is a forum for polls (for voting) and a forum for general discussion of the organisation, like goals and what not. We could do that on SS, but it seems more official on the actual website, and on forums you can make sure people aren't voting multiple times by making it so they can't vote until they get ten posts or whatever. (Actually, I wonder if that's possible? Probably is.)
What does everyone think?

It is THE most horrid, bloated mess of a CMS out there. Do not touch it. You will get aids.

Re: EFO Discussion Thread. (V2)
This looks like a great idea. We need an organization that is an actual movement, and while this site does serve a purpose, it doesn't necessarily offer the best platform, or even a dedicated platform, to have an effective movement.

I looked it up. The thing I was thinking about is TikiWiki Groupware CMS thing something or other... what an odd name.
http://info.tiki.org/Tiki+Wiki+CMS+Groupware
But yeah... can't really go wrong with Wordpress. Unless you want a wiki. In which case it starts getting annoying.

Eh, I don't really think we need a wiki. SS's wiki will do just fine for that.
