Scientology - anonomous - 03-14-2010 01:21 PM

So what's your take on Scientology? Don't just talk about how much it costs to get in or stuff like that. Say what you think about Scientology's ideology(ies). It'll be nice to get your views on this Smile . I haven't seen a topic based on Scientology (yet).

Re: Scientology - Rebelnerd - 03-14-2010 03:13 PM

It was founded by a science fiction writer who once said "the way to make a million dollars is to start a religion." (source) Do we really need to discuss this any further?

Re: Scientology - HeartofShadows - 03-14-2010 04:07 PM

Wow well I believe using a religion to take money from dumb people is a great idea.

Look how it works for chrisianity.

Re: Scientology - jose - 03-14-2010 05:57 PM

god i hate religion. almost all of them were created by greedy assholes.

Re: Scientology - Ceiling Cat - 03-14-2010 06:58 PM

The thing that I hate Scientology the most for, is that they too are against psychiatry - making any antipsychiatry people associated with them by default, and ruining the image of such a stand in that case.

Re: Scientology - AWOL - 03-14-2010 07:03 PM

It's a religion. A rather new one that the author of their holy book has denounced. Called it a work of science fiction. Oh yeah, and the whole child abuse, no freedom of information... Little things like that, you know?

Re: Scientology - aaaaaaasd - 03-14-2010 07:34 PM

Scientology isn't a religeon, it's a cult.

Re: Scientology - AWOL - 03-14-2010 08:22 PM

XplodingNoggin Wrote:Scientology isn't a religeon, it's a cult.

A religion is a cult, but a cult isn't a religion.

Scientology is a religion (by definition), and it is also a cult.

Re: Scientology - anonomous - 03-14-2010 08:48 PM

Hmmm... most people here don't actually seem to treat Scientology seriously. For me, I think it's intresting to anylaze any religon's ideologies (Scientology included). Smile

What's the difference.

Re: Scientology - Firstostrike - 04-14-2010 07:52 AM

People should not make statements on what they do not know.
I once went to a scientologist as a way to help me learn more easily as i have been diagnosed with a learning disability.
We learned why it is hard to study, and how i can overcome it.
The problem is im too lasy to actually do that stuff on my own when i am learning. Haha.
But other than that, the guy was very nice, and also answered all the questions I had for him, and I had many questions.
We shared similar views about school and what it makes of people, he also told me the reason Scientology is a religion- being a religion (rather than an organization) is tax free. That is the only reason.
It is not really a cult too, there are many classes to be taken that are supposed to make your life better, you don't really have to get involved in it like the people and their testemonies you can read all over the net who "have escaped the claws of Scientology", because i know that many don't. I myself am not a scientologist, but i really don't get anonymus- "we do not forgive, we do not forget"?
come on, how many people died or were hurt by psychiatry, do you hear people saying that to psychiatrists?
what irritates me more about it is that they use this phrase very casualy, and it seems more like a threat than a statement, but as an israeli jew i know there is another similar saying which is much older- "We shall not forget, we shall not forgive"- which refers to the nazi death camps. And putting the scientologists, which from my experience were very nice, pleasent people on the same level as the nazis really boils my blood.

I agree with everyhting you said with one execption. Just because one scientologist is nice, it dosen't mean all scientologists are nice. Same with nazis. They're all just doing what they think is right. Smile

Re: Scientology - Duelix - 04-14-2010 10:46 AM

Another bullshit religion.

All religions are bullshit.

Duelix Wrote:Another bullshit religion.

Religon is not bullshit. I may be agnostic but I highly disagree with your comments. Religon is the answer to life for some people. What's the problem with that? Your comment is highly irrational. How may I ask, is religon bullshit?

Re: Scientology - Rebelnerd - 04-15-2010 05:06 AM

Faith is bullshit.

Re: Scientology - Duelix - 04-15-2010 05:15 AM

Anything believed without evidence is bullshit.

Religion is believed without evidence.

Therefore religion is bullshit.

Sure its an answer to life, but it's the wrong answer.

all themistakes in this post is because of a (bullshit) symttom of carper tunnel's synfrome.

Re: Scientology - anonomous - 04-15-2010 09:45 AM

Well what religon are you? There is no absolute truth.

Re: Scientology - anonomous - 04-15-2010 12:18 PM

No there's not. How can one dispove christianity? How can one disprove atheism? How can one prove christianity? How can one prove atheism?

Re: Scientology - CrayolaColours - 04-15-2010 12:21 PM

The term "Nothing is true, everything is permitted" comes to mind.

We base our evidence off of things we understand are true, but we honestly, never know. Everything we understand to be true right now could be complete bullshit.

QFT We just believe 'proven' theories because people may not have found information that exists that contradicts such 'proven theories'.

Re: Scientology - CrayolaColours - 04-15-2010 12:50 PM

It's sorta always been my opinion that everything is opinion, and there is no such thing as face. Of course, as it stands, there are some opinions that are more believable than others, but there really is just no way of knowing.

Re: Scientology - AWOL - 04-15-2010 08:34 PM

We cannot know that anything is 'real', and hence we define 'real' with things we can find facts to support in our current perception of reality. There are no facts to support a religion. There are no facts to support non-religion. Non-religion is instantly the more desirable point of view. You cannot prove to me that an omniscient, omnipotent deity, why should I believe you?

I have no idea. I wasn't paying attention to names when I was reading the posts. You and CC methinks.

Ah good. So when you said 'why should I believe you?' can I assume that it was a rhetorical question?

Re: Scientology - AWOL - 04-15-2010 09:02 PM

Yup.

Re: Scientology - Efs - 04-15-2010 11:05 PM

It was made by a science fiction novel writer, he made up bullshit, and people bought it. This is the result of a religion.

Bullshit+I'm the Superior(Population x 0.75)=$$$ - A person in the right mind
