There are nine available nations up for grabs, so take your pick.

Also, we need a name for this world...something other than "Earth" or "Goss". Thoughts?

GoSS Game 3: Nation Sign-Up Thread! - Subb - 03-26-2015 05:18 AM

I believe I will go with D. Jungle area, small, and is pretty close to Dragon Island

* Subb declares that Nation D is Nation D no more, but is now referred to as Luvania.

Also, I apologize for the crudity of this map.

The dark blue spots are the oceans, of course, the light blue spots are lakes and rivers (and there aren't very many), the light green spots are farmland, the light green spots with the grainy squares on them are cultivated farmland, and the white lines above lighter ocean spots are the shipping lanes.

I'll make the map slightly more complicated when I get around to it - right now there's only two islands (dragon and league), and I just realized that I can create rivers the same way borders work *facepalm*

(I'll pick a nation as soon as a few other people have. Leave the scraps for myself, y'know.)

Nation I, aka The New Empire.

GoSS Game 3: Nation Sign-Up Thread! - Chanku - 03-26-2015 07:18 AM

Um...even though it's not on there can I have a small space of three non-connected territories sort of in a ring?

GoSS Game 3: Nation Sign-Up Thread! - Ky - 03-26-2015 07:41 AM

Sure, Chanku, I was going to update the map anyway. Hang on...

GoSS Game 3: Nation Sign-Up Thread! - Ky - 03-26-2015 08:09 AM

Here is the revised map:

Note that the League of Nations and a new area called the Freeisles are marked by black borders, and are thus entities that cannot be taken over by any nation.

Chanku, I hope Nation J will be to your liking.

GoSS Game 3: Nation Sign-Up Thread! - Ky - 03-26-2015 08:41 AM

I thought of a name for the world, by the way: Cadsira.

That's short for Cooperative Anti-Dragon Setting with Imperialism and Resource Accumulation. I know, acronyms and whatnot, but it's a better name for a continent than "Goss".

GoSS Game 3: Nation Sign-Up Thread! - Chanku - 03-26-2015 09:00 AM

It is, I claim it and call it the Islands of Three...

GoSS Game 3: Nation Sign-Up Thread! - Ky - 03-26-2015 12:37 PM

I forgot to mention, the black houses mean port, and the red dome thingy means capital. Each nation has one of each.

And to recap:

Nation A - small, plenty of coast, near a desert, unclaimed
Nation B - small, some coast, near a desert, unclaimed

Nation C - small, near marshland and jungle, unclaimed
Nation D - small, near a jungle, claimed by Subb, now named Luvania

Nation E - midrange, bordering a river and lake, near grassland, unclaimed
Nation F - midrange, bordering a river and lake, has some untouched forest, unclaimed
Nation G - midrange, bordering a river and lake, near shrubland hills, unclaimed
Nation H - midrange, bordering a river and lake, near forest, unclaimed
Nation I - midrange, has plenty of untouched forest nearby, claimed by SchoolSux, now named The New Empire

Nation J - midrange, islands in close proximity to Freeisles trading hub, may require a navy to conquer further land, claimed by Chanku, now named the Islands of Three

J looks nice...I think I like it. Course it's taken and mages probably make crappy sailors anyway.

I'll have C, and name it "Arisyan"

GoSS Game 3: Nation Sign-Up Thread! - Ky - 03-26-2015 01:36 PM

The nations near the seat of the League would be the easiest to play, due to their proximity to natural resources. I recommend these areas to users who have never played GoSS before. (Speaking of which, could you guys spread the word?)

Luvania and Arisyan would be moderately difficult, with their only lumber being from tropical trees, and the higher likelihood of dragon attacks from the nearby island.

A, B, and the Islands are definitely going to be a challenge to RP, as they completely lack a stable source of lumber or fresh water. Good news is, they're far away from the League and near the Freeisles, so their best hope for survival would be in negotiating with the traders and pirates in that vicinity...

GoSS Game 3: Nation Sign-Up Thread! - brainiac3397 - 03-26-2015 01:45 PM

We'll use extra laborers to move north-west to better land.

As for dragons, our mages should be able to figure something out. I'm guessing our libraries and stuff will be primarily underground or farther away from the coast for protection.

GoSS Game 3: Nation Sign-Up Thread! - Ky - 03-27-2015 05:16 AM

I hereby occupy Nation A and shall call it Wastreu. Also, I've added a little bit of geographic diversity to the map - now there are more rivers and islands, not to mention the inclusion of savanna and even fungal biomes.

Signup thread will close in 48 hours.

You have two days to choose a nation if you have not already. If you want to make changes to the map, now is the time to request them - edits will be few and far between once the game has started.

Once the signups are over, new players will have to request land from the League of Nations if they wish to have their own nation. Though I'm not sure what to do with the unclaimed countries once the League opens...should I destroy them, or should I make them NPCs?

GoSS Game 3: Nation Sign-Up Thread! - brainiac3397 - 03-27-2015 08:00 AM

Dissolve them in a new map, but keep em on an old in case someone wants.

GoSS Game 3: Nation Sign-Up Thread! - Ky - 03-27-2015 08:04 AM

I have backups of every map I've published so far, so we're good there.

Though it would be kind of weird for nations to suddenly disappear in one map and reappear (potentially overlapping conquered territory) in the next.

GoSS Game 3: Nation Sign-Up Thread! - brainiac3397 - 03-27-2015 08:12 AM

Then I guess they'll just have to find an open spot or something. I don't expect we'll be expanding so fast as to take up ALL the good spots.

GoSS Game 3: Nation Sign-Up Thread! - craxyguy562 - 03-28-2015 03:07 AM

Can I have Nation B?

((Sonar Hill))

GoSS Game 3: Nation Sign-Up Thread! - Ky - 03-28-2015 03:30 AM

Sure.

That just leaves Nations E, F, G, and H - each of which would be really easy to RP, and are ideal for new players in that regard.

Also, the way I've decided to do it is this: All nations that are unclaimed by the start of the game will keep their borders and be known as disputed territories, which will be under League protection until a new player petitions the League for ownership of one of them.

RE: GoSS Game 3: Nation Sign-Up Thread! - brainiac3397 - 03-28-2015 04:28 AM

That works.

GoSS Game 3: Nation Sign-Up Thread! - Ky - 03-29-2015 02:10 AM

Want to request some miscellaneous changes to the map? Biome placement bugging you? Think there needs to be more/fewer trees/rivers?

Now's the time to say so.

GoSS Game 3: Nation Sign-Up Thread! - brainiac3397 - 03-29-2015 02:56 AM

A bit more hill-land in Arisyan? Near the forest to the north-west of the border(in the plain area)?

or do hills not have a symbol?

GoSS Game 3: Nation Sign-Up Thread! - Ky - 03-29-2015 03:08 AM

That's jungle rather than forest, actually, but sure, I'll add some hills.

GoSS Game 3: Nation Sign-Up Thread! - brainiac3397 - 03-29-2015 03:23 AM

is it possible to magically affect climate/weather?

Considering the area my nation occupies seems to be something along the lines of tropic, I'd be interested in having our mages create certain zones of more temperate climate via magic. Obviously it wouldn't cover the entire region, and require magical focus to maintain it, but it'd give the capital(or basically the only urban center at the moment) something unique.

Plus it'll give a defensive bonus to my nation, which isn't very offense-minded in the first place.

Final map?

If this is acceptable, I'll start the discussion in the League thread.

Sure. That would provide an in-universe explanation for how there can be temperate farmland right next to a rainforest, at the very least.
