Hitler would have never even made it to popularity. He'd be trolled so hard, he'd quit politics.

If the Internet had existed before WWII broke out, there wouldn't have been a WWII - or at least, not for very long. People tend not to like being reminded of thousands/millions of deaths, which happens when there is an instantaneous form of communication.

Of course, that might also have meant that no one would have been willing to challenge Hitler, lest the people engage in Vietnam-era protest songs a couple decades early...except maybe the German people themselves.

RE: Last one to post wins - brainiac3397 - 04-17-2015 05:45 AM

Its likely images of concentration camps would be enough to see the war through.

Last one to post wins - Ky - 04-17-2015 06:34 AM

I'm not so sure of that.

You know how people on the Internet today complain about America being the "world policeman" and causing all of the wars they fight in? WWII-era people would have weakened the military effort much the same way with similar complaints about the Allies forcing Germany into that position (which isn't entirely false, after all) if the Internet had existed at that time.

Except the FDR administration would probably have enforced some extremely draconian "Internet safety" legislation by that point...

RE: Last one to post wins - brainiac3397 - 04-17-2015 06:40 AM

The Nazis were looking to take over the UK. I doubt many would protest against a war against a nation built on expanding their borders for their superior aryan master race. Yes, casualties would be bad, and create lots of criticism, but worst case scenario would probably be a less effective war (as in Nazi germany probably exist in some way but with significant reforms to their government and the removal of Hitler).

Plus FDR would, like you said, employ some drastic censoring.

Saw a wasp earlier today while I was on the computer. Scared the shit out of me.

Last one to post wins - Ky - 04-18-2015 02:15 PM

...What's happening to me?

My critical thinking skills - those I have already developed, anyway - appear to be operating at full capacity for the first time in months. I'm constructing coherent strings of paragraphs in order to distribute information on specific topics. I'm devising detailed plans and strategies for various facets of my life. I'm becoming more loquacious, and exhibiting a predilection for verbosity and complexity in my speech.

If I were to use a metaphor to describe this change in my cognition, I would say that I must have flicked a switch to the "on" position - a switch that corresponds to the proper utilization of what little intelligence I have.

I wonder what the cause might be - I doubt it is coincidence that I have become disillusioned with complacency at sudden, nor that I appear to be far more focused than usual. This calls for psychological investigation!

RE: Last one to post wins - brainiac3397 - 04-18-2015 02:34 PM

I call it magic. Everything suddenly becomes clearer.

Unfortunately too much clarity and you are forever tormented by the ignorant bliss, a sweet yet forbidden fruit because you've come to the realization that its only an illusion. The truth sets you free, but it is a freedom brought on by self-ostracizing. Once you leave the cave, you can never be the ignorant person you once were.

Perhaps truth seekers are simply maschoists. Nobody would strive for such suffering if pain was not their pleasure.

Last one to post wins - Ky - 04-19-2015 02:18 AM

Gee, thanks for the pleasant thought.

Maybe those who seek the truth aren't looking for realities that are solely painful.

RE: Last one to post wins - brainiac3397 - 04-19-2015 05:54 AM

More humans=More pain

Its like ignorance is a sickening aura of torment that you feel one realize what's beyond ignorance. So either somewhere with almost no humans, or somewhere with less ignorant humans might actually be warming.

Gah, I really haven't been all that active here. Don't worry, I intend to change that. It's just that I went from just having school to worry about to actually having a life, and that's new and weird.

RE: Last one to post wins - brainiac3397 - 04-20-2015 03:11 PM

Having a life...a great big quest till death brings it to an end.

Last one to post wins - brainiac3397 - 04-21-2015 01:07 AM

lethargy is a lifestyle.
