Chemistry Crap. - Kumaneko-Chi - 05-14-2012 01:15 AM

Alright, I've missed the past 3 lessons on Chemistry and my teacher's don't ever give a flying fuck about that so I'm gonna need some serious help on these questions:

Question 1:
Ammonia is a gas that is very soluble in water.

a) From the following list, choose the most likely pH of an aqueous solution of ammonia:
2 , 5 , 7 , 9 , 13

b) What effect does aqueous ammonia have on red litmus paper?
c) Ammonia is released when ammonium sulfate is warmed with sodium hydroxide solution. Write a word equation for this reaction.
d) Ammoinia reacts with hydrochloric acid to form salt.
(i) Copy and complete the equation for the reaction:
________ + _________ --> NH4CL
(ii) Name the salt formed in this reaction.
e) Ammonia can be used to control the acidity of soil. Suggestion one problem in using ammonia to control soil acidity.

Question 2:
a) What effect does hydrochloric have on:
(i) Blue litmus paper?
(ii) Universal indicator paper?
b) Hydrochloric acid also reacts with magnesium.
(i) Write a word equation for this reaction.
(ii) Name the salt formed in this reaction.
c) Hydrochloric acid also reacts with Magnesium carbonate. Copy and complete the symbol equation for this reaction.
MgCO3 + __HCl --> MgCl2 + ______ + ______

d) When hydrochloric acid reacts with sodium sulfite, sulphur dioxide is produced. What type of oxide is sulphur dioxide?
e) Describe how the pH of the mixture changes as hydrochloric acid is added to a solution of potassium hydroxide until hydrochloric acid is in excess.

Owh Gawd, HELP!

I'll reply about what I know, since I took chemistry last year and have forgotten some most of the stuff
a) should be 9 since wiki says that a 1.0M solution of ammonia has a pH of ~11
b) it turns it blue

e) in a plant growing environment, if the soil gets too acid use some sort of acidity sensor/indicators to release ammonia if the soil's too acid?
-----
a) i. turns it red
ii. turns it red or near-red

Wish I could help more, the rest is pure lolwut, sorry.
