Open campus or closed? - OmegaWolf747 - 10-23-2007 11:57 PM

So who here can leave school for lunch and who is stuck in the building? When I was in high school, everyone could leave, no questions asked, as long as they came back. When I was a senior, they changed it so only the tenth graders and up could go out and the year after I'd graduated, only upperclassmen could go.

I think it's very stupid that students aren't even trusted to be on their own for 45 minutes nowadays. This is the infantalization of young people that I rant about. What will be next, prohibiting students from walking to and from school on their own?

THey don't even trust us to go to the bathroom anymore. Noo

- OmegaWolf747 - 10-24-2007 12:34 AM

Oh yeah, the old hall pass schtick. I remember that.

My school has like 8 fucking bathrooms, I think. 8 for girls and 8 for boys. Additional bathrooms for teachers, but recently my retarded ass school decided to put doors on them (yes, the bathrooms didn't have doors, but the bathrooms were built so that nobody could peek in and see as they were walking the halls). And they fucking locked the doors to every fucking bathroom except for the ones on the "main" floor. So I could be all the way up on the 800 level and I would have to go down 5 fucking levels to get to the 300. Don't get me wrong, it's not a death defying walk, but it's damned annoying to have to walk down all of those steps to take a piss, and then have to walk all the way back up. Then the school makes big deals out of people being late Rolleyes...

I see no logical reason why kids should have a closed campus...if they are failed for skipping then they simply got what they deserved....

- Alucard483 - 10-24-2007 06:46 AM

It was open my freshman and sophmore years. Then they closed it for freshmen last year and now for sophmores this year. I got in JUST IN TIME

- OmegaWolf747 - 10-24-2007 06:47 AM

Ha ha! That's almost how it was with me. I felt sorry for those kids.

- Rebelnerd - 10-24-2007 06:52 AM

only seniors can leave for lunch. the rest of us are stuck inside. as one can imagine, the black market for off-campus pass forgeries is has been thriving for some time.

- OmegaWolf747 - 10-24-2007 06:56 AM

Aw, that blows. Yeah, I can imagine. Just be careful not to get caught.

All grades can go outside for lunch, I think only 10-12th can go off the grounds. Actually, its probably all grades.
But we only have 20 minutes lunches, so really going anywhere and getting back on time in impossible.

But they have these little passes you can get, if you're moderately well behaved and such. So you can an entire hour, but thats inly if you have a study hall before or after. Or if you have middle lunch. (That where your lunch is in the middle of a class period, because you have a study hall 5th period)

- OmegaWolf747 - 10-24-2007 07:17 AM

Sounds better than most schools.

- arthasmenethil - 10-24-2007 07:32 AM

Mine is closed. Noone can go off campus for lunch or any other time of day.

- OmegaWolf747 - 10-24-2007 07:38 AM

Mississippi... figures. The south has an abysmal track record on youth rights. You know what I would love, is if an 18-year-old left campus, was busted for it and then sued for false imprisonment. I think he'd have a leg to stand on since 18 is the legal adult age.

- arthasmenethil - 10-24-2007 07:51 AM

yaeh Mississippi sucks. Schools(at least in the county I live in) Are allowed to make any rules they want. I can't wait for the day they make a rule that I can sue them over. My school looks bad enough all ready. Something like that would just make it worse.

- Eidolon - 10-24-2007 10:53 AM

I used to walk around the school grounds during lunch, until they had a guy waiting for me at the door I usually came back in the school through. He asked if I was smoking and I said no, and then he said that I'm not supposed to leave the building. And I was all like "Whoa. That's stupid."

If we're supposed to be mature enough not to talk in class, then of course we're mature enough to be allowed to leave the building. Jerks.

- Towncommoner - 10-24-2007 10:57 AM

Open, only for seniors.

- OmegaWolf747 - 10-24-2007 10:57 AM

Had other students been able to walk the grounds? Were you singled out?
