Why I'm an anarchist. - Prince Rilian - 03-14-2011 10:03 AM

In other words, why no government's power is legitimate, which the definition of anarchy, you retarded slug.

I was reading harry potter, book 6 I think, and I was thinking about how this stupid "ministry of magic" just sticks its nose into people's business and says, "You have to do what we say."

What right do they have to tell, like, Hermione what to do? She's just living in england or whatever, and then because she has "magic" powers, when she turns 11 suddenly she has to follow the laws of this other group. She doesn't get a choice. Idiots have proposed that she could choose not to be subject to the rules of the ministry of magic by never using her powers. That's bullshit because that is a restriction being imposed on her, so she really is still subject to their rules.

Suppose the powers in harry potter were just prestidigitation. Then you've got this organization making up rules for when you're allowed to prestidigitate and exactly which tricks are allowed, and if you don't do what they say, they come and get all up in your business, even if you're not hurting or bothering anyone.

Suppose some people organized into some stupid group and then started saying, these are the rules for catholocism, and if you want to practice catholocism, you have to do what we say. It's not slavery because you have the choice not to practice!

Anyway, I was thinking about this, and I realized that muggle governments are exactly the same. They effectively just pick out some random people and stick guns in their faces and say, "Do what we say!" It's just that instead of picking out all the people who do magic, or all the people who prestidigitate, or all the people who practice catholocism, they pick out all the people who live within a certain border that they arbitrarly decide on.

The "government" does not have a legitimate right to power.

Therefore, anarchy.

There is no flaw in your reasoning! congrats Smile

the next obstacle is knowing that everything changes all the time and finding a way to ascertain an anarchy and keeping it from melting away. The idea to perpetually freeze it from alteration. without of course destroying free-will. this part is what borders on poetic parodox.

I agree with what you said about the government, but what you said about catholicism was just plain ignorant. the pope doesn't order us to do anything the only people that have to obey him are priests.

... it was a hypothetical. As was the one about prestidigitation. As was the one about harry potter, since harry potter is not real. I was not saying that there is any such organization regarding catholocism. Cuckoo

OK then forgive me for the bad language i was just kinda irritated because everyone is discriminating against catholics these days simply because of 6 priests.

I guess you got tired of actually having your beliefs challenged over the Politics forum, so you ran away to Philosophical discussion to start your own thread where you can set the tone. Cut and run. Real smart. You know, I said you were stupid earlier but I was wrong: you're just a sensitive coward who can't stand to be disagreed with.

Also, you're still a libertarian and not an anarchist. And if you think I'm petty for following you around the forums like this over a simple word, it's because "anarcho-capitalists" didn't face off against corporate mercenaries during the Labor Wars, die by the hundreds in Spain, or get rounded up and executed by the FBI during the 1920s. Don't think you can just hijack over 100 years of struggle and sacrifice without a fight.

Quote:I guess you got tired of actually having your beliefs challenged over the Politics forum,
I got sick of being in an argument that wasn't going anywhere. You weren't opening my eyes to anything new.

Quote:Also, you're still a libertarian and not an anarchist.
Are you going to explain how the views I expressed in this thread are not anarchistic? Anarchy means no rulers. That's exactly what I am supporting.
Quote:And if you think I'm petty for following you around the forums like this over a simple word, it's because "anarcho-capitalists"
I'm an anarchist, and anarchy can't exist without respecting people's ownership of themselves. The free market is a natural consequence of anarchy, so that word "anarcho-capitalist" is retardedly redundant. In your "anarcho-communism" or whatever, you just try to hide the rulers, to pretend they aren't there. But they are.

You didn't face off against corporate mercenaries, you didn't die by the hundreds, you didn't get executed. Don't take credit for what other people did.

Also, you're still an idiot.

Re: Why I'm an anarchist. - Prince Rilian - 03-14-2011 01:36 PM

I've put that idiot back on ignore. I have no interest in hearing its stupid claims about definitions over and over.

Unrelatedly, I made this thread so there could be a fresh start because the argument in that other thread was totally fucked. I thought if I just started from the beginning and explained my views, maybe it and I would be able to see that we are in more agreement. But it just stuck its fingers in its ears and shouted "lalala".

Unrelatedly again, I did not make this thread as an argument that I am an anarchist, but rather why I hold the belief that I and other non-stupid people call "anarchy". The thread could just as well be called, "Why I hold this belief that I hold, the name of which is not important."

Re: Why I'm an anarchist. - Rebelnerd - 03-15-2011 02:49 AM

Putting someone on ignore for disagreeing with you is like a candidate in a Presidential debate covering his ears and singing camp songs at the top of his lungs when it's his opponent's turn to talk.

I'm sure you'll go very far in life with that attitude. Biggrin

Re: Why I'm an anarchist. - SoulRiser - 03-15-2011 04:42 AM

Would you guys agree more if Rilian had just simply not used the word "anarchy" anywhere in his post?

Though "Why I'm an anti-government-ist" just doesn't have the same ring to it.

Re: Why I'm an anarchist. - Faby - 03-15-2011 04:59 AM

I came in here just for the MoM allegory, lol.

But it doesn't work that way.

The MoM is necessary because up to 11 none of them know anything about their odd gifts, other than special events, like making glass go away.

In which case, they'd need Hogwarts, which is a corollary of the MoM.

But it was mentioned in a book -- the fourth, I think -- that there are still homeschooling wizards and witches -- and not to mention foreign universities.

There is choice in education, but not in government.

The MoM evolved from the Wizengamot (based on Witena ġemōt), which was a democratic medieval gathering.

This thread is fun, lol.

Yes, but that's not even the point. We don't have to agree. I just want him to stop being so irrational and oversensitive about it.

He does that with everything.

You can literally dig through posts where he has done this.

You do know that's unlikely to happen if you call him a coward or stupid and stuff, right? Razz

Re: Why I'm an anarchist. - Rebelnerd - 03-15-2011 11:47 AM

I called him that AFTER he responded to a long post I did with "no" and "lol," then put me on ignore.

So you weren't ignoring me after all! I take back everything I said about you being a coward. Good to see you back in the fight, comrade!
